Hello All,

For the past 4 weeks I’m being trying to start my new Savage XL 5.9 with no success. I have done everything that I could think of to try to make it to start. The truck only start only when the root start is turning the engine, once I stop the roto start the truck would stop running. I’ve tried to adjust the Low Speed Needle to see if it would work but did not. I bought a heat gun to heat up the carburetor before starting still no results. Does the engine have to be a certain temperature but it would start?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. ..sounds like it might be the idle set to low.. or the throttle trim on the remote needs adjusted to start with. That might help.. also you priming it to make sure it's getting fuel to the carburetor? ..make sure the glow ignightor is charged good and the plug is good .. might yet pulling the throttle slightly as you try starting it as well and try starting it with the wheels off the ground. ..good luck..

it is a good idea to preheat the motor up to almost 200f but any heat is better then none. give it a bit of throttle to keep it running when trying to start it. worse case turn the idle screw in slowly when starting to get it to stay running

Thanks for your response and Happy New Year!
Is the idle different from the Low speed/high speed needle? If, yes where is it located?
The model of the remote is: TF-20U and the ST –TRIM and the THR-TRIM are setting in mid-range. What direction should I turn them?
Thanks.

Thx you to. And yes the idle screw is a really small black one on the side of the Carb housing it's at an angle.. and as for your throttle trim knob on the remote. ..with your truck off turn the knob n watch the throttle servo move so you can see the Carb being pulled open or pushed closed. Then set it back to the Center then gradually turn it to get it to slightly pull the Carb. If you need to. But typically you adjust the idle screw and make the remote trim so it closes the Carb fully against the idle screw when you let off the throttle. So there's no run away truck cause the throttle trims opened up to much. ..hope this helps..
