hi iam just wondering what is the best socket 939 processor i can get is it the amd fx or the dual core

I have an AMD Athlon 939 in my home-built machine, which I made about 2 years ago, and I have been very happy with it. However, if I were to build a computer right now, I would look for an Intel Core 2 Duo.

I don't know that much about computers, but in a discussion with one of my computer nerd friends the other day, he also said he would buy an Intel processor right now as well.

I suggest checking out www.newegg.com, as they have a lot of details and a TON of customer reviews on there. Not to mention, their prices are usually very good and their customer service and shipping department is incredible.

I would go for intell also, if possiable the quad core. You will see more speed with 2 cores (or more) than with more proccessor speed. especially in some types of apps.

so if you already have the motherboard, well I am not sure what FX is, but our probably better with 2 core.

the fastest 939 chip I found (and bought) is the 4200+ dual core...I am VERY pleased with it...got it from tiger direct for around $60-ish...

oh, and personal preference (since I'm a gamer) I'd steer clear of the intel and stick with AMD

Best 939 single core is the fx57. That is what I run. I can beat any dual core intel or amd chip with it in single app or games. but mine is 3.2 oc. intel still can't beat amds front side bus. for dual or quad i would do intel. you will not see the speed unless you are doing multiple apps. for opti core amd.

skip intel get amd FTW serious amd roxks and I'm using there there duo core in my laptop intel sucks but thats the gamer side

AMD has an X2 6000 now I believe. If you are a gamer though the Intel Q6600 is going to give you the best performance for your money. I'm and AMD guy but I have to say Intel has taken the lead with that Q6600 right now. Ive built 6 systems around AMD chips and never had any problems. The motherboard will have a lot to do with your performance as well as your memory.

Yes, that Q6600 combined with an ATI X1900 graphics card and 3GB of ram provide flawless gameplay.

Sad thing is you'll never keep up with the computer speed or power there always making it better. To tell you the truth They are one to two steps ahead of the market always waiting 6 months or so to just bring out another. A friend of mine is into Making Games and they are always pushing the limits of processor speed and power This keeps them RICH..

did everyone hear about Microsoft gave a bid of 44.6 Billion (BILLION) Dallors to Yahoo to buy them out.

A 939 4200+ Dual Core for $60? Ah baking powder? Exsqueaze me? I think that must be a typo or I am BUYING ONE RIGHT THIS SECOND! lol

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Socket 939 CPU $69.99

sorry, I was off by $9.99 (although I DID say "$60-ish")

From what Ive read the new quad core AMD Phenom is a but of a disappointment performance wise. Nothing stresses a system like a a high end game, but if not your not a gamer you get build a great system fairly cheaply

also, they appear to be sold out of them, so you won't be buying one right this second 😉

just had a look around, and can't seem to find them now on newegg or tiger...can find them on eBay, but not for nearly the deal I got on it...too bad you missed the sale...

with the savings I bought a nice Thermaltake Ruby Orb cooler for it...runs like a dream...

if you want multi app speed don't forget you can use 2 amd quads on there fx72-74 board and have opti core which stops the daylights out of the intel qx quad cpu. plus you can run 4 ati cards in sli with the board also being ddr3 ready you can for a bit of money blast any intel system. but like i said i'm running an oced fx57 with 7900gtx oced cards. it still kicks butt. i want to say but do not hold me to this 120 frames a sec. in bf2 in heavy combat with all shaders maxed out. i run a 15,500 3dmark5. still good for a 2 year old system.

I'm trying to think how BF2 compares to CoD4 graphically...it's been awhile since I fired BF2 up...granted, I don't have my CoD4 settings maxed (only bumped the resolution up a few notches from the default/system optimums) but it sure looks sweet!!

wow thanks for all the replys the reason i ask is because i would like to build my self a gaming pc i have got a at8 32x motherboard and i would like to know what the best processer i can get for that i did have a amd x2 2.2 overclocked at 2.8

i belive i have found the best cpu i can get for my socket 939 is the fx 60 dual core if iam wrong could you plz say so thanks

but iam a bit confussed between the fxs as i have seen two thay are (amd athlon fx-60) and the (amd opteron 185 fx-60) what is the diffrence in them if there is any is it just the name??? plz could some one tell me thx

the opteron is geared more towards servers not pcs. The FX is better for gaming
