I was once a member here years ago, but I don’t remember my login info username or anything else. I have 4 Savage X’s that have been under my bed for about 8 years. My son was a baby back when we ran these every weekend, but has always been intrigued by them. He’s 12 now, so I finally decided to get them all out, tune them up and get them going. For the last several weeks we have had blast playing with them.

I got all these these running with my stockpile of parts I had back then, except new filters and fuel. I accumulated a pretty good supply of parts and engines back from around 2008 - 2011. I currently have 3 Mach 427’s, a Mach .26, a couple of HPI .21’s, a HPI 4.6 (.28), a HPI 5.9 (.36), a XTM 24.7, an Orion .28, a NIB Speedwerks V2 .26, and my best engine is Clockwork Racing Engines modded Picco P3 .28.

I was wondering what the latest, greatest engines were today. I’ve been out of this a long time, but the Picco and the Orion were pretty stout engines for the day.
I’ve read a little about the Octane gas engines. How do they stack up to the nitro engines?

It’s great to be back fooling with these little monsters!

And I made my first mistake - this post probably shouldn’t have been in the XL forum!??

Hey welcome back, I just got back into savages after about five years out and enjoyed the 2008-2014 heyday for these trucks. It seems that nitro is dead on the bashing side and if you want a good mill you need to look at a race bred .21 with a pull start. LRP went out of business this year and I think any engines you can find on ebay are old stock. I will be looking for an engine and see there are two dynamites...slim pickings.

Is LRP and SH one in the same? I thought I remembered the Dynamite engines being manufactured by SH, but I could be wrong.
It does seem nitro popularity isn’t what it once was. I guess I’m a dinosaur, because the electric trucks don’t do it for me. I respect their power, but I still prefer the sounds and smells of the old nitro rigs!

It looks like HPI is going to keep the x4.6 going which makes them the only one doing nitro RTR now of the big brands. Traxxas and losi are out. Look on ebay and amain hobbies for nitro engines with pullstarts and you will be disappointed.

I think the SH and LRP are similar, and the 454 was very close too.

I got a smoking deal on a great lightly used x4.6 recently and have another to build along with a flux - glad to be working on these again myself, I guess I needed a break. Maybe there will be a resurgence.

Ive just started rebuilding my 4.6 x after not using for about 3 years. I was an active member on savage central form 2004 onwards i think. slammedpunt if anyone rememberers. Had an original savage 21, and bought my 4.6 back in 2013. Still a fun truck, i hope parts support is continued from them, the design in many ways was ahead of its time.

They are still making them - shipment just came to my lhs.
