Hey guys, I have some Axial engine parts and I'm going to put together a 32 spec 1 and a 28 spec 2 for spare engines but I am short a few pieces. 1 connecting rod which I have found but expensive. I'm still short the head gaskets(aka shims) for the 32 (AX054) and the 28(AX013). The 28 gaskets I found on eBay fairly reasonable. The 32 I cant find anywhere. Even emailed axial and of course they quit making them and don't have any. Was wondering if gaskets out of another engine would work? measurements from axial says brass is .15mm and aluminum is .3mm.

Any help is appreciated

Ill have to measure the head. I don't know the ID or OD and don't have any old ones to measure. Axial web site just lists the thickness.

They are usually the ID of the sleeve and as long as the OD is the same or narrower than the sleeve rim, you should be good. Their purpose is really just to seal and add proper compression ratio.

I gently ground one's ID out with a dremel once... took forever and my fingers were raw by the time I was done, but it sealed ok. I couldn't hold it with tools without crimping it and possibly damaging it, so had to run the dremel pretty slow with a fine grit wheel while holding it with my fingers.

Not trying to be a smart azz but I know the purpose of them. I was trying to see if anyone knew if another engine mfg's gaskets would fit. I thought about trying to make a set but figured that would take more time then it was worth if I could round up a set. I appreciate the reply's. Surely I'm not the only one around still messing with Axial engines? Granted I just got into the nitro hobby about 3 months ago or so. Seems I missed the good old days for nitro??????

I had an axial for about a gallon... then no matter what I did, tune was awful, power output was worse. Gave up after wasting a couple of my precious weekends screwing with it. Replaced it with an LRP28 and never looked back.

I sold it for parts along with a go 28 engine I had received in trade to some dude in Canada for next to nothing.

From what a lot of people say... the crank cases are all made in the same place for LRP, axial, HPI, dynamite engines. Maybe just order a set of shims for another .32 and see how it goes. Just a thought.

If I still had mine, I'd send it to you. 🙂

well I have several :ercm: and I just measured the shim on my SH.28 it is .720 X .920 so if you have a caliper you can check the inside dia by simply checking it, I do have the Axial .32 in my savage but am just too lazy to take off the head to check it for you sorry.....
