So, I just purchased a new Savage XS and am very excited to try it out. Since this is my first electric car, I was hoping for some advice on a good 2S LiPo Battery and a good charger. Thanks!

Do you plan to buy any other RCs that use LiPos with more cells? This information helps us suggest the right charger for you.

For batteries, I would highly recommend going with SMC. Very good value with great performance.

No, for the time being this will be my only LiPo car... I still love my nitros!!

I don't know if it will fit, but the charger is one of the dumbest ones you can buy. It will do the job... but that's it. It won't tell you anything about your LiPo's.

You would likely be better off spending a little more to get something that is more informative. You may also want to look into a dual output charger so you can charge 2 packs at a time. Not necessary, but allows you to grow a bit before what you buy now becomes useless to you later.

I started with the traxxas ezpeak dual. Within a month, I was annoyed with it and spent $240 on a 4x100w charger that told me what was going on with my packs. Knowing how much is going into your packs when charging, coming out when putting in storage and the voltage of each cell is helpful for knowing the health of your packs. Some even tell you internal resistance, which is another useful piece of info. My first electric was an e-revo which ran 2 packs, so the 4 port was necessary for me so I could charge up 4 at a time, then go bash for 2 cycles.

I know you said you were sticking with nitro... I ran nitro for 18 years before electric 3 years ago. I had 10 nitro's at the time. I now have 3 nitro, 5 electrics, and 3 chargers. lol!

I just hate seeing new to electric people short change themselves up front like I did.

EDIT:
I reread what I said and I wasn't insinuating you were dumb, just that the charger itself is dumb/noninformative.

Looking at the specs and what is suggested for the xs on hpi's site, there doesn't appear to be much wiggle room in pack size. They suggest this one: https://www.hpiracing.com/en/part/101942
Which measures 138.6 x 45.8 x 25.1mm

Looking at the image on the site for the battery tray, it doesn't appear you can go any taller really:

These should fit without issue:
Basic 2S that should be plenty of power for that truck:

Higher output:

https://www.smc-racing.net/index.php?route=product/product&path=67_97&product_id=387

These will get more run time and should still fit:
Higher capacity:

https://www.smc-racing.net/index.php?route=product/product&path=67_97&product_id=546

SMC also offers a decent dual AC/DC charger that should let you charge any of those at 2C, even on AC:

Wow!! Thanks so much for the information, I really appreciate it!!
Sounds like once you go electric you don’t go nitro anymore...

Isn't quite that drastic. I doubt I'll ever stop running nitro, but electric suits where I have to run better. I ran out of places away from people/residential. They either overgrew, became no-trespassing or built over. It wasn't until this year I found a public grass bmx that is about 1/4 mile from houses. Really wish I had one of my 1/8th buggies again now! There's one other place that I have, but by the end of spring, it grows over too bad and if whomever owns it doesn't mow it in the fall, the residual weeds are still too thick in the early spring.

I ran one of my nitro's at the grass bmx last weekend and had a blast. I forget sometimes what it's like to run for an hour or so without having to stop. I would have run a lot more but I snapped a shock shaft on my revo. I ran my savage x there a while back, but it was a painful day as it did not like the tires I had or the tune/pipe I had, so I spent the entire time just fighting with it. My 21TM revo is a solid performer that requires very little fussing to run all day.

That said, I do run electric mostly now. It's great being able to bash in the winter without fighting with a nitro engine in the cold/wet/snow.

Yeah, I’ll never stop running nitro... I love the sound, the smell and I like how you really have to work at it to make to make it run right.
That being said... it’ll be nice to have more places to run without bothering people and just be able to plug in and play!!
Thanks again for your help!!
