I feel like a broken record. I still have a problem with my steering. I have a hitec HS5955TG took the servo apart and everything is fine. Replaced the bushings with bearings, nothing is binding took the front apart and checked everything. Servo arm is not stripped. The problem is that when the truck is one the ground and not moving, the wheels will not turn left to right. when I take the weight off the truck ( holding the front end up off the ground a little ) it turns the wheels no problem. Mind you that the tired are still touching the ground by just lifting the front end up a little to take the weight off the front the wheels turn like they should. When the truck is on the ground (not lifting the front) I noticed that the spring just gets compressed when I turn the wheels. When I take the weight off a little the spring does not compress and the tired turn with authority. Now this servo has 333oz of torque and has titanium gears so it should be more then enough to get the job done. Any suggestions as to what might be wrong?
 
sounds like your not getting enough power to the servo and the tires are gripping the surface to much to break loose and turn when just sitting there ... whats this on? a savage flux / x xl what one? try a new battery pack .. yours might be wore out or messed up...
 
I have the savage X SS Kit. I'm going to check that I know that the battery is not fully charged but this has happen even with a fully charged battery. But I will try again maybe I missed something. Thanks for the quick reply. Just can't understand why the spring just compresses like that. I do have the nut adjusted correctly 4mm thats what the manual says. Well I will charge the battery fully tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks again maximusraylius
 
yep no problem ... adjust the tensioner even more if you need to ... its ALL A MATTER OF PREFFERENCE IN HOW SOFT YOU WANT THE SERVO SAVER TO BE .. AND DEPENDS ON THE STRENGTH OF THE SERVO AS WELL... ..crap sorry hit caps not going to retype all that lol... good luck...
 
Do you have a HD servo saver spring? If not I would definitely look into getting one, that might also b tour problem.
 
Servo ha 333oz at 6v. I don't have the heavy duty spring should I get one? Will it help with the steering.
 
I bought the 7955tg and had the same problem, if u set it on the ground and turn the wheels and it doesn't move, you are more than likely just twisting that stock servo saver spring. Tell you what tighten your servo saver spring all the way up and if your problem is solved then by the silver HD servo saver spring.
 
You also have to look at what type of tires you have on it and the surface it is sitting on. Do you have a midtank conversion? That would put extra weight on the front end and keep the wheels from turning as you would like.

One more thing to check is that something isnt binding when the suspension is compressed. take weight off and compress suspension and check steering.

If all is well there than put your servo saver to half tightness and don't worry about it. it is a MT not a crawler you don't need the wheels to turn lock to lock when stationary. I don't know about you but I do most of my turning while moving forward.
 
Thanks guys. I will try what both of you said. First I'm going to charge the batteries. Couldn't do it today. Next I'll try to compress the suspension to see if anything is binding ( haven't tried that yet ) thought I tried it all but I'll check it out. I'll tighten that spring all the way to see if that works as well. And yes that stock spring just twisted and compressed while I turned the wheels. You hit the nail on the head with that one Slimshamis crash the man. Pope when you say take the weight off and check the suspension how do you do it? I mean just lift the truck off the ground and lift up on each side of the a-arms? Not trying to be stupid just want to be sure I'm doing it right. cornfused and your right about turning those wheels while moving.

Yeah I'm with Alex (Pope) on this one.
I have the Hitec 5645MG 168oz/in at 6V and it's a perfect servo for me. I run the heavy duty servo saver spring tightened about half way. When the truck is in a forward motion the tires turn on a dime (i'v done the carriers mod for tighter turning radius).

+1. Servo saver nut is not tighten
 
No not yet. Of course I haven't had a second to fool with my truck. As soon as I get the time I'll post some results. I want to go out and get that HPI heavy duty spring. But I need to find out if whats up first before I go out and replace parts. Thanks guys for all the help. :40:
 
OK I checked the spring and tightened it all the way down and it seemed to help a lot wheels turned while the truck was still. When I moved the spring back to where it was 4mm it just compressed as I turned the wheels. Going to buy the heavy duty spring. I think that was my problem all along. I'll let you guys know. Thanks again for all the help.
 
I did it

I put that heavy duty spring on my savage tonight. Steering problems are gone. Thank Christ. Thank you guys for all your input and help. 😛nclsmilie:
