I did consider it but making a nice hex into good quality stainless steel isnt that easy and frankly, I was too lazy trying it so far. Fiber is the next best thing and works also - most of the time. ;)
Pads on steel brakes isnt really an issue. You just don't use pads. Steel on steel with a mod like the one shown below does the trick and brakes just as good as fiber discs but does so also when soaking wet.
However, I did eventually move to fiber brakes because the steel discs are too...
I had the same issue. Theres a thinner available from PlastiDip that allows you to thin that stuff to your liking. Since I didnt have that then and needed it done quickly, I just used a brush. Doesnt look as smooth as a proper dip but oh well, as long as its sealed...

Zumiez, are those 40 series mashers on your truck? Judging by the rims, I would have guessed the smaller masher 2000, but the low profile suggests the former...
I got a set of 40 series on axial 8-spokes myself and really like them on gravel, due to bigger size even more...
Took these last spring. First and for quite a while the last time I had the monster titan wheels on my savage. :crazy: They're just too wobbly but probably still nice on ultra rough terrain...
LiPos (batteries in general) don't like low temperatures either. Very low temps not only reduce the capacity of batteries, it can also permanently degrade it, especially with LiPos.
HPI should have gone the whole nine yards and replace the 10x16 bearings with 8x16 to make these truly bullet proof. They missed a golden opportunity there...
