Custom Flywheel conversion

(( This thread was moved from another post. The reason for this project is so you can run a "bump start only" engine in a savage. If I can perfect this, it will be available for people so you can run your favorite "bump start" engine in your savage. ))

If people are interested I am looking to have a flywheel made that uses a belt for starting, like in a boat. Then you could run whatever engine you want in a savage for minimal cost. Let me know.

I remember talking with you about this a while back. Winters comming. Time to get to work. If they made it work on the boat, Robin will find a way to get it on th Savage. Now cost may be another issue.

Here's a suggestion. What about looking at how the RB Innovations supercharger work to get an idea as to how-to use a belt for starting. It'll be pretty much be the same concept as far has how the belt goes on the flywheel. I'm not sure if the supercharger uses the stock flywheel or one with the kit. It's a thought to look into. And it does sound like a good idea.

pure, any insight on how it will work? I'm wonderin if you would have to haul around a large piece of equipment lsimilar to a starter box or roto?

Ok just a couple of questions;
once you get it started then what happens with the band because you wont be able to remove it because of the CB and spur gear so it would have to just sit there. Also i don't see how it will work because yea you can run a supercharger off it fly wheel because the flywheel is spinning and there would be verry little resistance coming from the superchager but if you want to start a motor from the flywheel there wil be lots of resistance.

I'm just not sure that the round rubber band style belt will work on the nitro motors especially during break in. I think it will slip to easy. You may need a toothed belt to run between them, something like whats on the Nitro RS4 2 of the Nitro 4tec or similar.

REX - I'm sure he is thinking of a OWB on the starter end, which the belt would always turn but motor wouldn't.

Well by the looks of it there seems to be some interest in this mod so I'm going to see buddy tonight and he seems interested in doing it. I will fill you all in once I have more info, He has a full machine shop 15 minutes from my house 🙂 if this goes over well, I have a bunch of other tricks up my sleeve...

The purpose of this is so you can run a "bump only" engine in a savage. After talking with buddy last night, it looks like it will work, we just have to source a belt that will be strong and fit the grooves. Won't be long now.

then it would be easy to use engines without a pull start or shaft started, ther are alot of engines which are very powerful but u cant use in savage

like the axerossi cobra i posted earlier in the forum
