well.i just bought a axial 28rr....from the start i sealed the motor.. i broke it in with the heat cycle way...every once and a while it runs lean even when its rich as hell.. ive been driving and been tuning for some power ..i can make some passes in the street and all is good but every once and awhile it goes lean.(temp and sound).is sounds as if its close to overheating....i have re sealed the motor and done evrything i can to make sure all is right..the motor runs great with no bogging or stalling just gets lean some times when its still on the rich side..could it be i need a cooler plug???i live in AZ so its still kinda hot out..its the last thing i can think of to try..what plug would you guys recommend.

I'm not sure what the problem is but a friendly reminder... keep a eye on the one way bearing as i've seen ALOT of people having issues with them especially the rr, just a heads up!!

Killer, do you have a pic of your sav & what fuel tank are you runnin'? is it the stocker? not sure if you know about it, but the savage tank causes a widely known problem called 1/2 tank lean. My mill had it & i would tune it with a full tank & when there was 3/4 or less fuel, the temp would shoot up to 280, 290, 300+ without my touching a needle. Did a mid-tank conversion, problem completely solved & my stocker f4.6 now rips! This is a great starting point to diagnosing whatever is causing your problem.

check out this posting and see if it sounds like the problem that you are having...http://www.savagehowto.com/?page_id=64
.
i heard of another guy who found a new tank for under $20 that fixes the problem and just bolts up to the stocker tank location. if you are interested, i can try to find it cuz it may be on my computer at work.
.
good luck & let us know how you make out...freddy

most guys who have had this problem do a mid-tank :

a++ on that advice.. its a good place to start, i bought a different tank setup and love it (ofna tank mod) which new era models sells with mounting brackets for like $30-40 dollars and its a really nice tank but a bit smaller then the stock tank so a few less minutes of run time per tank but not that drastic and the tank comes with brass fuel nipples which is a bonus and the tanks design is better in my opinion its nicely channeled to divert the fuel to were it should be heading and its said to help the "half tank lean" issue alot or as was said a midtank mod could be a idea to think about as well!! check out the threads that were given and you will learn alot I'm sure!!!

Wow sounds similar to the problems I had with my RR. They seem to be a hit or miss motor. Contact Axial support try not to talk to paul collman. Beware they will not like your break-in procedure and probably blame it on you.

Does your from bearing leak like a sive as well?

A cooler plug will not make much difference with air temps. If you aren't burning up plugs there is no issue with them.

Also, you could try the Mid-tank or a different tank which may help your problems.

I eventually got Axial to take the motor back basically replacing everything and selling it. I will go somewhere else for engine's form here on out.

thanks for the replies guys..i do have my savy midtanked..its funny ive looked threw this whole forum and made sure i would try all the things listed before i made a post..thats why I'm not sure where to go next...my front bearing hasn't started to leak yet(knock on wood)..and the motor runs like a champ..it seems to have a little more topend that my lrp28..i have a jp4 pipe on both motors..i love the lrp alot and i got the axial for dirt cheap so i thought id give it a try against my lrp and am more suprised by the axial rr than i thought i would be..sorry about getting off subject....and thanks for the help

oh and i thought you guys would like to know I'm gonna be clocking both motors to see which one has more top end.same truck, gears, pipe and tires ...i will keep you updated...and trust me i don't want to see my lrp go down to an axial ...lol..but just from driving the axial it will be a contender...

Have you sealed the carb where the aluminum cap meets the composite body? They have been known to leak from there, also the mid speed needle needs to be sealed up. I have heard from a few people and seen it myself, fuel shooting out of the msn when priming the engine. I have seen a non responsive engine come right around after sealing those two spots, give it a try if you haven't already.

Also if you talk to Axial do not mention you sealed it too. It voids the warranty... What pipe are you running?
