I resently just pulled out the savage from moving across town and had a mccoy 59 plug for the winter and went back to the 8 and just like that 2 plugs down the drain lookied like something was on top of the piston checked clean, so got it running but now the idle is so high I turn it down and apply the brake and it is shutting the carb all the way and shuts off I am also putting on the ofna linkage mod but any help as to why else the idle is so high would be great.

ya try that or the idle needle...

try removing your air cleaner and see if their is crap in there...

Ive turned the idle out ALOT and still a bit high and I had to change the one-way and thought the same thing so I got so air and blew it out nothing that I saw flew out. My other question is that how does my motor go from running like a bad outa hell to nothing just by changing the plug to a cooler one before I changed it, it ran around 275-280 and idled fine.

sounds to me like the carb slide is sticking a little if the carb fully shuts when you apply the brake. When the brake is applied, the carb should already be sitting on the idle screw. Another reason for high idle, besides what has already been posted, is a possible air leaks which will also affect tuning the motor. Hope this helps you out. Good luck and keep us posted.

Never thought of old gas cause its from last summer and in through winter. Now if the carb is for say sticking what can I do to get it unstuck? I thought of the air leak too but not sure where from cause I sealed the back when I changed the one-way so I know its not from back there. Is it possable to take out the idle screw to check and see if theres anything wrong with it and would I do any damage if I do or leave it in? Thanks for the help.

also check your linkage. Maybe it is holding it to far open at idle and pushing it in to far when you brake (thats why it kills).

Well I started looking at the needles and came across the high speed one and noticed that there is no o-ring on it. Is there to be one on there cause if so there is my biggest problem.

I looked in the opening and its clean I would like to know where the o-ring went too. I found my book with the detail of the motor and saw that o-ring, but does anyone know what size it is so I can just get one cause I'm going to the beach it a little over a week and want to take it with me and I know that my hobby shop WILL NOT have that part just like they always don't have what I need and if I order it from hpi it will take forever..

I'd take needle with me and go down to a auto parts store and find one that fits on the ID-maybe get several different sizes that are close and go see how they fit.
A little bigger is ok-in fact I have heard of some members getting a slightly bigger size to help keep the needle still.
Good luck!

What engine is this? And are you using the factory carb?

The seal O-rings I have used in the past, has been the OFNA # 52960 . I have used them on both my .21 hyper and .28 SH engines. I believe that most main needle sizes in the carbs on .21 to .32 are about the same size needle and seal. For the most part.

Well I got it all back together after moding the rest of the truck and its ALIVE! I just gotta get her tweeked in and I'm good to go thanks for the help.
