I have a savage x 4.6. It was running very well then all the sudden it would start bogging down when i gave it full throttle. Now it will only take off and keep going at half throttle, as soon as i give it full it bogs down. I tried starting from scratch and going back to factory setting on the carb. I leaned it out until i was running about 250 and it ran a little bit better but still bogs down occasionally, but still isnt anywhere near full power. The motor has about 1.5 gallons ran through it and was properly broke in. Any help?

Have you ever sealed the engine ? what plug are your running ? try a new hot plug (mc59)
Are you sure your needles arn't walking on you ?

sealed the engine? no.... glow plug, factory. and the only needle that isnt firmly in place is the mid range needle... i can turn that easily with my fingernail but it seems to stay in place at the factory setting. Ive watched the tuning videos from youtube and they didnt discuss the mid range tuning. I think I'm going to try tuning again this weekend, my previous attempt was cut short due to an upper control arm snapping on me.

what is the ambient temps where you are at? what nitro % are you running? You may want to get a colder plug depending. The plug that came with the truck is a hot plug. The big block engines like mostly cold plugs. Nitro % is in the factor as well.

Hi,

You mentioned the mid ranged needle. I was told that was a very very hard needle to adjust and not to touvch it ever. Try to get it back to factory.

air leak too, look into that there is a sticky on sealing the motor in the engine thread., also make sure your tank isn't cracked and that it will hold pressure.

good point SHIFT my engine bogged down when i cracked my second tank. it was missing a small piece of the tank and was hard to see at first. but when i finally found the problem and replaced the tank to worked fine.

If the temps there are freezing, then I think personally 250° is too hot! Like mantioned airleak! I would think a air leak would give you an erratic idle tho! Running to lean is a good possiblity! Remember colder temps you want a richer setting. Check your tune over just to make sure it's not a tuning issiue or a clogged filter as well.

wow i tried so many things... different glow plug, sealing the engine, replacing my gas tank, replacing my gas lines.... according to the book and all intructional videos my truck shows the symptoms of running way to lean, even with the needle screwed all the way out. tonight i took off my piece of crap rd logics dual rear pipe and put back on my purple ribbed hpi tuned pipe and VIOLA!!!! instantly right back to normal..... still a little tranny shifting problem but I'm so happy to at least have my motor back to normal, i was starting to get a little scared and very frustrated at the same time

Sounds like you wernt getting enough pressure from your pipe. Glad you got it fixed!!! The shifting sounds like you just need to tweak your transmission adjustment..

ya I'm not sure with that right now either.... one day it was perfectly fine, then the next day it didnt shift. I'm not entirely sure if its not shifting to second or is not shifting out of second. it seems to have good acceleration and good top speed i just cant hear it shifting like it used to. ive tried adjusting out and in with no results. my adjustment screw is very tight i assume this is normal?
