Head Shims on F4.1

I have a Savage X that I bought used. It has the F4.1 mule. I took the head off & found no shims. Should it have shims & when reinstalling the head do I need to do anything special? I apologize for the questions but I am new at this. Thanks in advance Rob

i thought i had this on my k4.6 but the shim was actually stuck to the head so i got a small screw driver and picked at the edge and it came off

My 4.1 had three shims on my one i remived two and it ran great you should have one on there ... ..

not that i know of....everytime i put my head back on i do them up as tight as posible jus using the allen key...but there maybe...lets see wat anyone else has to see cus i may be doing it wrong.....but when i do it works fine after

bolt them in a x pattern snug one screw then snug the screw diangnol from it to insure equal pressure.

great advice as it is possible believe it or not to warp a head!!

Sorry to hijack your thread but I have the same question involving the F4.6

How many shims should I have on the F4.6?

Looking at the instruction manual page 32 /33 it says four gaskets at 0.2mm/4.6 gasket number is 1460 thats what the book says , lets see what other members half to say. thanks mike/ good luck
