don't washt he electronics with water use denatured alcohol so it evaporates off......

I say wash it to get the salt off, it will take a lot of alcohol to rinse off the salt. but everything will have to be taken out of the case's so the water will dry well, and to get the salt off.

I worked in the electronic's industry for about 20 years. but here is some links so you don't have to take my word on it,

One thing that has allways worked for me is to run down to a RADIO SHACK store and pick up some electronics contact cleaner and spray the crap out of it and then use a hair dryer like blazer said then let it dry over night and you should be OK.

i tested the crystal on another receiver it worked
and i pluged the servos into a new receiver using the savvy radio and they worked so its the receiver
thanx for the tips though

lol nissan good catch
well the failsafe i had on there i noticed dramaticaly reduced battery life
its th big venom one.
so few days b4 i took it off and planed on geting just a regular failsafe.
wen it ran away wouldnt off matered anywho battery didnt have enough juice 2 even apply brakes enough 2 stop from going off wall which is what messed it up

if u hit the tire on something all the plastic bends bak but the dogbone tries to stay were it is resulting in it bending or snaping while the plastic prts return 2 their original placement.........just my geuss not rly that experienced lol

yes but a failsafe would have kicked in and stopped the truck long before the battery was so dead that it couldnt even work the servos....

agreed that is what a failsafe is for. You can set them to just put the brakes on or to put the brakes on and turn or what ever you want. They are made to cut off before your battery gose dead or if you run out of rang of you transmitter. They are made to keep from having a run away truck. I think that we can all agree that we put and have to much money in our rigs to loose it all to a run away truck when it can be prevented. Correct me if I'm wrong guys!!!

welcome to the site sorry about your crash. But supersavage is right that is why most of use don't use alum a-arms and such. plastic will flex most of the time so its much more forgiving on a bad landing or if a tree or light post jumps out in front of you.lol

According to the parts list, thats what it says its called. Anyways, I'm getting more comfortable and more daring. Hit a jump that is oh, maybe 4 feet high or something. Landed perfect on all 4 wheels, but in gravel. It fishtailed, then rolled 5 times, on the 4th roll, I heard a snap. Saw my back tire all crooked. After review, as you can see in the pics, broke the upright set. I was about to order a new one, then looked more and more at the damage and noticed all 4 upright sets are the same, and there are 2 holes, but only one is used. So what I did was glued the piece back on, didnt figure it would hold up, so I took the opposite side front upright set and put it on the back, and vice versa. Worked like a charm. The hole that is used for the back wheels is NOT used for the front! I'm sure you guys already knew that, but I thought Id share it anyways. Here are the pics:

i agree on failsafe thing
i took 2 channel receiver off my rc18 and put on the savy
works good no reverse though
my o.s. 30 is almost broke in and running at 190 degrees and hauling butt

Salt water is much worse than fresh water, If I were you I would take everything apart, especially the electronics and wash them in fresh water, the rx should be removed from the plastic case and washed in fresh water too. anything you wash should be dried well, air dry is ok but I would use use a hair drier.

I know it sounds crazy to wash electronics in water but it is fine as long as POWER IS REMOVED.Many manufactures of electronic PCB's usu water soluble flux then use water to clean the flux off. I worked for a small company that assembled their own boards, they used a dish washer to clean them.

You need to get the salt out of everything.

Spoken by a man from the ocean!
If your motor was running, and your radio turned on when the water got to it, chances are it's gonna be toast. It's not the water that's dangerous, it's the salt. It can scratch delicate surfaces, conduct electricity, etc.

Water by itself is not really conductive, remove the power and clean everything thoroughly. Even if the stuff that works now is okay, the salt will destroy it in short order.
Be sure everything is dry when you put power to it.

Well, treat all water as conductive, distalled water, that is distalled correctly with 100% of everything else removedis suposed to be non conductive. salt water is very very conductive, infact it is an electrolyte. salt is also highly corrosive. the water will evorpate and the salt will remain.

If you haven't destroied any of the electronics, your best bet is to remove power, take everything out of the cases and rinse it with a lot of water, make sure you get under everything soldered down on the board, shake the board off and let it air dry.

The electric motors, I would do the same thing rinse them out well shake them and let them air dry, (I read on one of those links above where a guy put his PDA in a bowl of fry rice to get the water out, might be good for the motors)

You may or may not have killed something personally I cant remember droping anything electronic in salt water, but I have used this method to clean up my TV remots when the buttons stop working or from spills. I did a lot of component level repair on pcb boards too. anyway that's what I would do. good luck.

Yep, didnt cost a penny. That part you linked me to is ideal, I bet it wouldnt have broken if those were on there. I will make that order. Thanks z400

Wister,

Well said bud.

I never realized the damage salt water could do, I'm a freshy myself.

no salt water for thousand miles..lol

thanks bud.

tried to Rep ya. someone already did.

everthing is out and drying we will see with a little time.
but in the meantime had to get it up and running the lhs
a few key componets needed were back in bussiness baby
runs better than ever thanks for help.

Unfortunately one of the best places to bash these things is the beach, the worst place for it.

Yeah, salt water is really bad on electronics and mechanical things, Something I noticed when I moved here the boat ramps near salt water all have rinse off stations where you can pump water through your motor's cooling system and rinse everything off, never had to worry about that in Missouri.

I would hate to drive my savage into salt water for sure.

pretty paticular about my maintaince so everthing was covered in a thin coat of oil prior to the incident so i should be in good shape. installed new servos and reciever to go with my spectrum radio i scored. very happy
then the others dry ill check them out.

engine was revving all the way up and car was going kind of slow so i thought maybe needed 2 make it shift sooner.
eventually the engine would run but wouldnt move.
I'm pretty sure i need new springs cuz i think i may have stretched them 2 much and if theres noticeable damage ill get pics

I'm with lifter here, check your slipper clutch. Maybe the nut backed itself off a little.

yea i miss diagnosed it
if i worked in a hospital thered be alot of dead ppl
good job lifter.....u got it right off my description and i was there an didnt i feel dumb lol

Do I get a gold star for getting it right just after lifter? 😎
