Thought I start a thread just for a bit of fun and for a incite into other enthusiasts sav’s.

What’s you best mod/mods or hack

No matter how big, small, cheap, expensive or even free if you’ve been lucky enough to find anything laying around

One of the easiest ones I’ve done is the Vorza hex mod. Real simple with high benefit return.

Same here, I love the smell of nitro but watch my buddy tune on his more than we run them I just put batteries in mine, make sure everything's tight, and go.

Hi
Hi. Can you explain what it consists in. I couldnt find info about it. Thanks

Basically, all you have to do is bore out the hole in the output shaft to 1/8”. That will fit the pins for the Vorza hex’s. The benefit is the larger diameter hub for your wheel. Additionally, when you take the wheel off, the hex won’t fall off and the pin won’t fall out on you because of the way the hex captures the pin. It’s super simple to do.

Thanks. I was looking for a solution to get rid of the wheel nuts and doubted if someone had tried Vorza/Trophy 101061 - rear wheel axle shafts on a Savage. This mod you described will do the job.

I prefer my version as it puts more of the hub on the smooth part of the axle to support the weight and doesn't get egged out/wobbly over time.

Just requires a bit of cutting and a set of $10 "extended" hubs, but it does require you have the extended axle stubs. On my X:

First ones I did were on my flux hp as I busted the threaded end off one of the axles and was having a hard time finding replacements at the time:

I think that combined with the integy rear carriers and good 5mm bolts for the hinge pins are my favorite upgrades for any savage. Got really tired of those stupid hat nuts splitting apart.

My favorite upgrade for the flux hp was the super 5SC transmission with a center diff. Really made it a lot easier to drive.

What brand are those 17 mm conversions? I like the thought of having more then just the outside of the axle stub catching the weight.

Cheap generic ones:

I bought a second set to have spare cap nuts. I had to drill holes in the center of the cap nuts for all but one of my axles as the threaded part sticks out 2-3mm. The one that broke off fits fine.

I've never used those with the different looking hex, would stock HPI wheels fit on them?
Yep. With the added bonus of being able to use traxxas splined wheels as well I think. I usually cut the splines out of them, but that's what I usually ran on my nitro's were traxxas 3.8 tires/wheels since they were usually light and cheap to buy on ebay as take off's. Pretty sure though I did use a set with the splines still intact on it. My flux has normal 17mm hex proline trencher wheels/tires on the same hubs.
