Hi all. I’m thinking of fitting four more standard big bore shocks to my Savage 4.6. Anyone done this? Any advantages?
Thanks.

Standard bore units are actually slightly longer, so there is little added value in strength, as they will be the first to pull apart.... U can however add 4 more big bore shock without springs or light springs, for more dampening and added strength too

Will the big bores fit behind the arm on the front? I thought the steering turnbuckles hit them. I never tried running 8. I run 4 of the plastic big bores on my X and FluxHP. I use the smaller spring and white on the X with the smaller spring/white on the front and yellow on the rear of my flux hp. I'm running 40wt. Tried 50wt but kept breaking shock ends. I would guess if your running 8 you would want to drop to 30wt and softer springs than what I'm running or it will be way too stiff.

I guess I’m looking at my Savage 25 from about 12 yrs ago. (Ps I have only today got it running again after all that time, sounds sharp goes superb). It has 8 shocks but now I’ve realised that they are smaller in bore.
So I assume four big bore shocks are enough.

I just fitted 4 of the Big Bore Shocks on mine. They seem nice. Tried to rebuild the the 8 and got frustrated. The 4 Big Bores are way better. Just need to find the right oil. I would look into getting then and ditch the old shocks.

It has the four big bores fitted. But my other older Savage has 8 shocks fitted and I note that you could fit 8 Shocks to my new one! I realise now that 8 big bore shocks would be overkill. Basically I want to try and make it more stable on hard cornering.

Could see if you can find a sway bar setup. HPI used to make one (part# 102538), though I can't find it available anywhere.

40 wt associated with hellfire/white springs works really well. I have that on both my X and FluxHP. Tried going to 50wt, but started breaking shock ends a lot. My flux has yellow springs on the rear, but that was a mistake by the seller sending me the wrong ones. I used them and they work well. Considering the brushless squats hard on take off, a bit stiffer spring in the rear worked out well anyway. Still only 40wt oil though.

Yea
If by roll you mean anti-roll. I would call the bar above the transmission a roll bar (like a cage in a 1:1 race car).

Yeah I do mean anti roll bar. I fitted a roll over cage to my new one. I needed to as the kids at my school drive it hard!! Hence the need for fir more stability on cornering.

Hi

All you have to do to get around that problem is put 3/16" spacer on the bottom of the shock. Doing this moves the spring buckets out of the way so the turnbuckles don't hit.

I see. I didn't have issues running just 4, so I stuck with that. For me, part of the bonus of running 4 means less crap to maintain. lol! 8 of those with soft springs and light oil sure would make for plush landings though.

Ya I ran the same setup as grumpy but with only one set of springs, the added shocks just add extra dampening and strength from pulling apart, like the x4 are known for

I run the same 8x big bors on my alza reeper but with medium soft springs

don't mind the super large tires, those are just for display

I do know that with RPM arms, it's pretty much a requirement to run 8 shocks. I found that out the hard way. Busted a lot of shock ends due to the arms twisting on impact. They would twist so far they would just snap the shock ends in half. I'm glad the shock shafts didn't break. I swapped the RPM arms out for HPI ones and haven't had one break yet. I have broken 2 or 3 arms though on my flux since the change last year, but that's a lot better than breaking at least 1 or 2 shock ends off every time I ran the truck. That got old, fast.
