Hpi aluminum engine heatsink

What are everyone's thoughts on Hpi's heavy duty engine heat sink? Does it actually reduce engine temps? There's one on eBay for $18. Is it worth it?

Are you talking the engine plate, or engine mount? Either way, I'm not sure there is much of a benefit in them. Heat naturally rises. For both of those items, heat would simply soak into the engine above. I think a more efficient cooling head would benefit much more. Too bad Nova went out of business, because they made some nice aluminum heads.

Nova sure did make some nice cooling heads. i still have one for an HPI 4.6 somewhere , engine died on me..

That is the motormount. Looks nice but not functional. Best way is to get a better cooling head or richen it up a bit.
Too hot means too lean. 😉

Also, I'm not 100% sure that's HPI, which means it's probably cheap alloy anyway which means stripped threads.

Yep.

I've never had issues with the stock one. I did crack one once. Jumped off a 15 foot rockpile and the engine died in flight, so of course, it landed directly on it's nose. Broke heads off the screws in the motor plate and cracked the motor mount. Also tweaked the TVP's... lol
