The best thing about this truck was the fact that HPI says you can run the engine off pump gas. I have grown leary of this as most of the fuel where I live is at least 10% ethanol. I have switched to using Trufuel which hurts the wallet. Do you guys run pump gas to something else?

I haul gasoline for a living. I may be able to shed some light on ethanol for ya if you are interested. Ethanol acts in gasoline as an octane improver. The gasoline in e10 (gasoline with 10% ethanol) starts out as 84 octane for 87 octane at the pump. Starts as 90.5 octane for 93 at the pump. The ethanol is what makes it to the rated octane. The problem with ethanol is it attracts water and water makes the ethanol separate from the gasoline. That is why ethanol cannot be shipped through a pipeline. It can only ship on truck and train. Sometimes you can still find gas without ethanol. usually around a marina. They call it recreation gas. It comes at a price though. 30-40% more. I run Aviation gas in my 1:1 rail buggy. It has no ethanol and it is 100 octane with low amount of lead to help with the old valves in the old bug motors. Small airports will let you buy it, but it is usually self serve credit card only.

Which is why I always use Stabil fuel additive in any of my weedeaters and chainsaws.......

One other thing I do . For small engine gas, use 1 oz of Marvel mystery oil per gallon. It helps with the moisture and keeps seals in carbs from drying out..

Can you use the premium gas in the savage octane? Or is the 87 octane all you need. Is the benefits to using the higher octane or just a waste of a few extra bucks?.
