new hpi owner here. i just bought teh hpi rs4 mt2 with the 3.0 motor. got it last thursday did the first step of the break in on a stand just as the dvd stated. went to start it last night to do the second tank of the break in and it would not start. roto start plate in the back spins but does not turn the motor? so i bought a new one way bearing and still does not turn the motor over. the shaft spins but its like its not catching inside the motor. so i took off the muffler and spun the rear shaft where the roto start normally attaches and looked inside teh motor where the muffler attaches and noticed that the shaft on the outside was spinning but the piston wasnt moving at all???? i don't know how to fix it and I'm a little erked about it cause thais is a brand new car!!!!. Am i doing something wrong? anyone know how to fix it? thanks for any help.

that sounds like internal engine failure i would call hpi on this one

will this be covered under warranty? how does hpi handle things like this, ive never dealt with them before. do they make me mail it in? I bought it from TOWER not a lhs.

Also I would try looking in the exhaust port like you did and try spining the flywheel. If it spins you know the connecting rod is still in one piece.

I just looked through the manual from HPI's website to see how the motor breaks down. Now, before you fully pull the back plate off and really investigate the problem, call HPI customer service and find out what they'll do about it. But, from the looks of the design, it's similar to the old nitro star 25 that came in the second version of the savage. If you look through your manual towards the end (pg35+36 according to the pdf file on HPIs site), it's either gonna be part number 1433 (spring and pin, which are really small) or part number 15147. Since you've already swapped out the OWB, I'm gonna assume it's not #15147, cuz if the shaft was "spun" off, it may have come out when you swapped out OWBs. Or #1433 (spring and shaft) may have broke and the starting shaft (#15147) may not be "engaging" the crankshaft. But, like I said first, call HPI and find out what they'll do about it.

anyone know why hpi is closed today? ive been trying to call them since thursday night to get this fixed???
