Any way to quiet a nitro?

This is probably an unusual question, but is there any way to quiet a Savage X 4.6 down a bit? I wouldn't even mind a slight loss in performance.

I haven't yet bought one yet, and the noise is my only concern. I don't want to go electric because of the limited run time and I plan on taking mine camping where I will be unable to charge a battery for a week or so at a time.

I've heard of some people putting stainless steel wool in the pipe to silence it a little, anyone else have experience trying to quiet things down a bit? Thanks for any info.

They come with a silencer that helps a little. It's still pretty loud, but it's tolerable. I have also heard about steel wool. But I haven't tried it myself. I don't see why it would be a problem. Just a little more resistance.

I'm not sure if your gonna be able to quiet em down much if at all.

just an fyi in the brushless electric though:

i get about as much run time as a nitro would for 2-3 tanks (maybe more depending).
the hyperion line of chargers (and several other mfg)have the clamps to hook up to your car battery for field charging.

if charging batts will be an issue, you will have the same issue with a nitro truck as you'll need to charge your glow ig and hopefully your hump pack (i say hopefully caz i hope you wouldnt keep the AA batts in there to power your servos).

Thanks for the good info. I never considered the batteries requried for even a nitro truck. How often do these things need charged/replaced?

it really depends on the capacity of the battery pack and the servos you run, etc.

id say a decent guestimate would be that you'd recharge your glow ignitor and hump pack before each bash session. so if you plan to burn 6-8 tanks, you should have plenty of power if you started out with a fresh charge.
