Is the #8 a med plug? Or med-cold? In McCoys I've only used #9's so far but they're definitely the best plug I've ever used, seem to go well in my LRP.30 on 30% Byrons.

I run MC8's in my F4.6 and K5.9 no problem, now my LRP .28 is a different story, it hates those plugs for some reason, seems to really open up and run smooth on OS#5.. anyone will tell you, it all depends on your location and how you run it on what plug/fuel works for you..

It does make a difference where you live. Could be a big difference from location to location. I tried the MC-8 in the k5.9 and it didn't like it much with Sidewinder 30% nitro/10% oil. I run the MC-9 and it works better for me. I think a smaller motor may like the MC-8 better though.

As a side note, can you guys recommend a plug for me?

I'm trying to break in an LRP .30 and it's about 55-60 degrees out right now (12-15c). The plug that came with the engine is still good as it's brand new, but I think it's too cold.

The engine will fire with A LOT of pulls (pre-heated to 150c with hair dryer) but wont stay running without the igniter. I assume my plug is too cold?

More likely your too rich or the plug is bad. I run a cold plug in those temps with a .36 on 30% fuel all the time. The theory I read is that higher nitro contents like a colder plug, and the bigger the motor the more it will like a colder plug. So if your runnin a big block and higher nitro you most likely will want a cold or med-cold plug.

Needles are stock, as it's not broken in yet. Plug is stock so I'm not even sure what temp it is, probably should figure that out first! I'm running 25% O'Donnels. In any case, in these temps what's a suitable 'cold' plgu number from McCoy or OS? Seems this 'hot' or 'cold' is different between plug manufacturers.

I use hot plugs to run in mills. I never get near max RPM to worry about detonation. easy start , easy run. not about performance
