I am brand new to nitro trucks, so help me out here if you can. I have brand new stock Savage X RTR. I've got about half a gallon of fuel through it. The brakes are very good cold, but run for five min or so and I have very little or no brakes at all. What can I do?

Thanks. Kevin.

Hi Kevin, welcome to the forum, glad you found us bud.

Congrats on your savage. there is a adj. screw on your linkage rod that might give you some more braking power by tightening it down.

i experienced a similar problem when i got my X rtr & my bro's here suggested the ofna throttle linkage mod (which gives more adjustablity and eliminates the servo-saver on the t/b servo to maximize your servo's power)& upgrading the 4AA batteries in the truck receiver to a hump pack.

this fixed my problem rite quick.

here is a link to the OFNA linkage mod for you https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6977&highlight=hirisk

think i just helped you out in another thread lol but anyways welcome to the forum.. you might want to start diognosing it by checking to see if the battery pack or batteries are fully charged..

then try tightening the nut on the pull rod near the servo..

put a slight bend in the lever near the shaft that goes into the trans case it bend it twords the rear of the truck .. it pulls the breaks harder..

good luck happy bashn

Hey, thanks for the welcome guy's! I'm glad I found this form. I've been flying planes for about six yrs now and still do, always thought I would like to try a nitro truck, so here I go! Got it running perfect so far and having a blast with it.

You guys were correct, the brake problem was due to a low battery. I am running a hump pack and it was just to low I guess, I charged it up and just tryed it and it seems to work good now. Thanks!!

What are some good drive train up grades? I had thought about going to 49T spur gear rather then the stock 47 for more low end torque then top speed (right or wrong)?? Also, what about the clutch? Or should I just leave the truck stock for now? Thanks

Kevin.

sounds great Kevin, we're glad to have ya. if your in MA come bash with us on Saturday.

as far as upgrade recommendations? id say run your truck for a bit, read threads on the forum & see how upgrades will affect your truck & you can plan your upgrades based on that.

as far as gearing, a lower # will give you more top end, a higher # will give you more bottom end, here is the chart. https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3867&highlight=motopsycho

Welcome to the fourm, As for upgrades that all on your choice. 1 I would do is the ofna throttle mod. A center skid also. As for gears I had ran a 19Tcb and a 49T spur and had a lot a low end but lost speed went back to stock gearing and haven't looked back yet. Also your rear shock tower screws turn them around or you have a hole in your tank either get a tank guard or do the conversion and put it up where your radio gear is. If you break an of your upper or lower A-arms go RPM.
