It's my sons Savage SS K 4.6. This is not a new truck he has run it without a hitch for a couple of years. It sat for 2 years, he got it running the other day, with issues.
He is using Blue Thunder 30% Nitro, an HPI R5 glow plug. Now this fuel is 2 years old perhaps this is some of the issue. DOes this fuel go bad sitting in the jug over time?

It is getting spit sizzling hot at idle, he has run 3/4 of a tank through it and his Venom temp gauge is 290+. He has itrunning very rich to try to keep it cool and has run it around some but it will not cool down.

He is at a loss for ideas and myself seeing as this engine ran perfect before it's 2 year snooze.

Right know he is taking it apart to check for varnish and gunk and will clean it thoroughly and try it again tomorrow evening.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks

Les

Hi Les;

ya, nitro fuel attracts moisture & can go bad; fuel tubing and o-rings can dry out over time also which could caz an air lead.

if it were me, id start off with the easiest things first: some fresh fuel, a new glow plug & some new fuel line.

i took that $50 venom smart temp off & gave it to a friend caz i wasnt getting accurate readings from it & you don't wanna tune by temps ne way.

as long as your mill doesnt "sound" lean and is giving a good smoke trail your in business.

to quote a friend, watch this tuning vid as many times as you can stand to paying special attention to how the mill sounds https://www.hpisavageforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8833
