xl 3sp vs kit upgrade

hey guys, so you guys sold me on the 3sp. I recently bought a savvy x4.6 rtr. I was told that the xl 3sp had different gearing than the kit to upgrade my truck to the 3sp.

which would you guys recommend and why?

I can get the xl full tranny for 50 on ebay, and i would pay the same for the upgrade kit for my 4.6 x. also, i assume my truck has the "easy access" top?
 
the xl tranny comes with the high speed 3rd gear already installed. Get that one it's much cheaper
 
XL will give you the hi speed 3rd and the case... do it

for folks with older trucks, like mine, the ebay deals are hard to beat, I picked up a 3 speed complete with brakes and both driveshaft outputs cheap, the new style with bolts on the top is a lot easier to work on, and the output hex for the brakes is metal instead of plastic
 
should i leave the settings on the 3 speed as is or should i tune it, and what would be a good starting pt of i do need to tune it? thanks

You can leave at first if you want, but it will need to be tuned. Every engine is different and needs to be tune accordingly. What engine are you using? Maybe someone can speak up with a good setup for that engine.

just got an lrp 28 spec 3, need to get that thing tuned first.
