wobbly steering?

i was driving today and i noticed that my steering was wobbly i checked all the screws and there tight, i have the bearing installed instead of the bushing, i did that upgrade but is there an upgrade that tightens things up so less wobble and more control? cause its pretty much hard to control when its wobbly. thanks

it just started doing it today, i will have to go over the steering again to make sure.

man it was annoying and just seemed to be the front not the back, i will have to see if i can capture it on video.

does the servo saver spring control the i guess the slack or wobble in the steering? if so maybe its to loose.

It's your servo saver. You need to tighten it. I run the Tremor wheels and Goliath tires and my wheels wobble back and forth a little while I'm turning and hitting bumps at the same time while on the throttle. It's because the wheels are so big and heavy that the stock spring isn't stiff enough to resist the bump steer effect. I'm waiting on the HD servo saver spring but they are on back order at my LHS. You tighten that down some and it will help the problem. You can tighten it all the way but then any impact force to your wheels is being transfered directly to your servo risking damage to it. I Run mine tightened almost all the way so that it still has a little bit of give if I run into something hard.

Edit: You can test the tension by turning your Tx/Rx on, and turning the wheels one way with the Tx, then grabbing a front tire with your other hand and seeing how much force it takes your hand to turn the wheels in the opposite direction while still steering the other way with Tx. You'll see the servo saver spring go up and down while you do it. Hope that makes sense to you LOL. I bet in your case it won't take much force at all, that means you need to tighten the servo saver.

thanks man i will try that and see i thought i might be something like that.


on more thing on my steering linkage, on of them popped off i put it back on but it still pops off on jumps do i need to replace it? hope i explained that right.if you need a picture just let me know

If I understand you correctly, I think your refering to the turnbuckles with the plastic ball links on the end. Those plastic ball links will stretch over time and become more and more oval shaped instead of round. You can just unscrew whichever link is popping off and put a new link on the end of the turnbuckle. No need to replace the whole linkage. Happens all the time on the back of mine, that's why people get the rear hub carriers (tie-rod eliminators).

Get yourself a couple sets of these, you'll see the larger links in the pic (on the upper left portion of the parts tree), those are the ones you need:

I had put my tires that were for the right side of the truck on the left. Which on the treads facing backwards which caused the suspension to wobble like hell. I don't not have a picture which would help. I had learned by reading a thread somewhere here before. But I could be as what MikeK1981 stated. I will try and find that tread and send the link to you.

yep thats what i was talking about i will get a set then and just replace that one, should i replace the ball joint it attaches to as well?

thanks i think i have them on right its hard to tell with some of these tires
 
No need replace the ball link itself. Since it is metal and the other piece is plastic it won't really wear. Plus there really isn't much friction happening, the plastic link stretches from being pulled on.
 
Another fix you can do with the turnbuckles is to put a washer between the screw and the ball link to prevent it from popping off.

Mike has you on the right track about your servo saver. You can also put your truck on the kitchen floor and turn the wheels with the tx. The wheels should turn about half way before the servo saver opens up. If it opens too soon its too loose and will cause the wobbles.
