When did Sav diffs change?

Hi all,

I pulled apart a new diff that I purchased. I bought the whole diff, new for 20.00. I noticed that the new diffs are different than my original diffs.

The new diffs use part number 86032a, b, and c for the internal bevel gearing. The older diffs use 87193 and 87194. The new diff has 2 small bevel gears, the old style has 4 small bevel gears.

I mangled the new one. I'm wondering why they changed, the old style seems stronger.

any thoughts?

you have it backwards the new have 4 bevel gears and old have 2 and they changed when they introduced the savage x

hello.... hmmmm you sure the ones you just got are a new style? the new x style are 4 gears well actualy 6 bevel gears inside 4 small then 2 outdrive gears.. the savy 25 original difs are the 2 gear set up... then they went to 4 bevel gears before the x style came out ... now they all have 4 gears.....hope this helps you out a lil...

Interesting. My SavX diffs had the 4 small bevels and the 2 large. The ones I bought recently had the (apparently) old style. This might be why they were only 19.99 for the whole diff assembly. I guess you get what you pay for. The old style did not hold up very well.
