i just recently bought a set of tvp's for a savage 4.6 but not for my savage x on ebay..i want to know can i still install the 4.6 tvp on my x..what is the difference???

The only difference may be for the handle/roll bar. I have ran into a set of Hot Bodies plates that had fins, and had to use longer screws for the "X" handle.

they will bolt up perfect. the only differance is they have a little bit more metal in the back by the engine mount plate which is a weak spot on the x. I cracked a couple of them myself

100% correct. Everything will fit fine. Rolebar included.

The X TVPs had a small X under the engine. The new X SS ones had a beefier X there. Those look like they will work fine to me.

ok well i won the auction before reading * will not fit savage x....in the descrption....it was my fault for not reading everything..well, i will try them if not then off to ebay back they go..i would have to try to sell them myself

That just doesnt sound right to me. They should fit the X if they will fit the X SS. It will be interesting to find out who is right and why. Good luck.

yeah well, if they are wrong i wont tell them cause they emailed me witha cocky attitude and i wont give them the benefit of the doubt...

Those don't have the drop down for the X fuel tank. Looks like two right hand side plates. But I have not dealt with pre-X. Mid tank it and who cares!

there is something wrong with that info if they fit the xss and 4.6 they will fit the x been there done that

I didnt know the tank had changed from the X to the X SS. Interesting. Just get an X SS tank or do a midtank like BANK said.

I run 2 TVP's on each side. I have the old X style on the inside and the X SS plates on the outside. Everything lines up perfectly and in most places I didn't even need longer screws.

Besides doesn't HPI say that all X parts will retro fit onto older model Savages?

change bulkheads from what savage...the ss or base model...please help...give me some info on what i need...meaning what parts and names

well, isnt carbon fiber supposed to be stronger anyway..why should i run double tvps on each side...besides, carbon fiber looks hottttt.....

I run stock TVP's. They are doubled b/c I am rather abusive to my truck. The purpose of my post was to point out that I have 2 different styles of TVP's and they line up perfectly. I wouldn't worry too much about having to slap them back up on Ebay

And yes carbon fiber is stronger. And lighter it's lighter

I can't see any reason why those won't fit...All Savages, at least the 25 on up, use the same #87149 fuel tank, and it sits way above the TVP cutout the X TVP's have. Also, all Savage bulkheads bolt on the TVPs the same way. The X bulkheads simply have easier diff access and a different bumper mount setup, neither of which affect how they attach to the TVPs.

Maybe I'm missing something here too...If so, somebody fill me/us in! I know I'm 100% on the tank, and I simply haven't seen any mounting differences between X and non-X TVPs. (P.S.-only the early X4.1 had the weak bracing under the engine plate, the 4.6RTR has the stronger ones too.)

I remember a thread here about the differences between X and non X TVP's-something about the holes that line up with the bulkheads being different??? But they still worked I think..
But as far as an X and a X SS should be no differences aside from the size of the x brace under the motor. I think??? Now I'm confused lol.

The X has a pin on the top and a screw goes in the bottom of the TVP to mount it to the housing. If I'm not mistaken its reversed on the pre X Savages.

But X and X SS are the same setup just the X under the engine changed.

...and just like that, I learned yet something else new! Thanks oregonmud! :resp:

ok well I got the carbon fiber tvps and all bolts up except for where the engine bolts up . The holes are slight higher and where the roll bar would be. Any ideas?

Can you put up a picture? That'll make it easier for us to help you at this point.

pics of eng and roll bar

the 1st pic is the roll cage and the 2nd pic is the engine ..it is kinda hard tyo see due to my camera on my phone..if u can see where the holes do not line up on the engine brace...the tvp is below the eng. brace or vice versa..any mods i can do to fix this????

It's hard to tell from the picture, but do your lower trans. holes line up in that first pic? If so, there's something wrong with the way those TVPs are made and I'd contact whoever you got them from

They are the same as far as holes go. There was 2 different sizes of X's however Even on the RTR X they made a change in the middle of the production of them. The RTR X that I purchased had the larger X where the one my buddy owners and bought before me came with the smaller X pattern. Mine also came with some extra throw in parts like Alum Diff cups that were nicely packaged in the box. There was a change somewhere in the production run of the Savage RTR X. The 4.6 savage came strictly with the larger X. There was no change in the tanks between the X and XSS.

well they definently don't fit...i went onto hpiracing .com and looked at the part numbers for the 4.6 x and the .25 & .21 there are all diifferent part numbers...well, i guess I'm going to put these up on ebay...
