What is the exact reason for these plugs? Are they only for reducing performance or can they help with an engine that is getting hot and is unable to richen any more with out being a total dog.

I beleive they restrict airflow, like a restrictor plate on a race car. I have no personal experience, just seems like smaller hole less air. As to the performance and why, you'll need someone who knows what they're talking about.

yea if your in a main . or something and don't wanna pit .. ya know something like that

tell me about those mains, lol.

I wish I could make a main without having to pit......I know what you mean but at our track we refill 2 if not 3 or 4 times during the mains, lol.
