Recently I was trying to do back flips with a Savage X 4.6 off the ramp I just built and crashed and burned hard. The motor runs but the truck doesn't move. I haven't taken anything apart yet to determine the damage but I was wondering if anyone could pass along some suggestions as to what to change to do better wheelies and back flips off the ramp? I'm guessing if I change the right gears(?) it'll change the torque? This way when I repair the damage I can just go ahead and change the right parts to help fly this thing. Thanks.

Tuned right the x4.6 will wheelie and back flip with ease. as far as you damage or issue it would be pure guessing. need more information.

first thing is to check the spur and clutch bell for damage. then check the mill plate for anycracks or bends also check for any broken dogbones or drive cups. what gearing do you have right now ?

Do you know what gearing combo you are using now? How many tooth clutch bell and spur gear. I bet you wrecked your spur gear. If you get a spur with more teeth or clutch bell with less teeth, or both, it will make wheelies easier, i don't know about backflips though.

Dang, when we all post at the same time, everybody repeats one another
lol
makes the last guy in line (me) look like a doof!!!

No worries, I appreciate all the help from everyone. No idea on the damage yet, haven't started tearing into it. I'll add more to the thread tommorrow night once I get it apart. Still pretty new to the truck but I can manage my way around the mechanical stuff. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions once I'm into it though, like mill plate? Thanks.

gear combos

well ill start by telling you the larger gear on trans mision is a spur gear . the small one on the motor is the clutch bell.... so the larger the spur gear and smaller the clutch bell the more torque. the smaller the spur gear the larger the clutch bell the more speed you gain... but for wheelies if your truck is new still you got to break it in slow.. and get it tuned really good then it'll pull wheelies with stock gearing . i run several different combos on several different trucks and they do different things. so its a matter of preference is all... stock gears on a savage x are 47t spur and 17t clutch bell... want a lil more torque try a 48t spur or 49t spur with a 15t clutch bell... itll pull wheelies if got a nice toon on your mill...hope this helps you out a bit ...good luck,

As dan said check the nut on the spur gear #1 then go from there. Grub screws etc.. it will never do a standing back flip but off ramps all day

Maybe I need to jump in the tuning thread then cause I thought I had it tuned but it's not back flip material. Temps are running 230s-240s but it's hot here in vegas so maybe a need to switch glow plugs. Anyway I'll push this one to the tuning section and still maybe try some different gears. Will let you know. Thanks.

vegas heh I'm in vegas buddy lol hmmm well backflips from stand still wont happen but on the ramp it depends on the angle and such. but check the damage and all and let us know

Ok, tore things apart and it looks like I toasted the clutch, chewed the spur gear, destroyed the brakes, broke the engine mount and bent the engine plate, damn I hate landing upside down. So larger spur gear and/or smaller clutch gear to increase torque i.e. more wheelies and better back flips off the ramp? Any other info on good upgrades to this section since I have it tore apart right now?
