I'll try to make this as short as possible, while still giving any pertinent info to help troubleshoot the problem.

I finally broke my truck in Saturday(Savage 4.6 RTR) and did some mild tuning before we ran out of light. It was running great, not having any problems at all.

Well yesterday I took it to my buddy's house to finish up on tuning it up and run it for a bit. It started right up but I am having a problem with it idling way to high. I have to hold the brake or it will take off. I backed the idle screw off a tad bit but it still does it.

This is the weird part, when I let off the brakes, you can see the throttle cable/rod go back and give the truck gas?? Or when it's just setting there, you can see the servo moving giving the truck gas. I changed out the batteries in the receiver thinking that could of been causing it, I'll get a hump pack eventually. It's almost like the brake rod is pushing the throttle rod back when the brakes are released.

The only thing I did between Saturday and yesterday was adjust the brakes, that's it, didn't mess with anything else. My buddy has the exact same truck and I was looking at his brakes and brake lever. His brakes are fairly tight with almost no play, and mine are real loose. Same with his brake lever, it's pretty tight and mines real loose feeling.

Also when I hold the remote, if I tap the side of the trigger, not actually pull it back but tap the side, it speeds up also. I would like to just try to get the truck all back to factory settings and start over with the tuning. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it, being a noob, the manual can only help me so far:stressed:

And I apologize for the long post, I just wanted to make sure I gave the info needed to troubleshoot.

yea I checked that, it's actually all the way down, or all the way to the left. My buddy's is actually right in the middle

PS. I will be watching this closely in hopes of coming up with a solution

Try checking to see if the carb is being held open when the tx is on. If so you may need to reposition your horn on the servo to get it to stay closed.

check the servo, there's a chance it may have popped off or is simply loose. i had some issues with the throttle/break servo for a bit till i took a good hard look at it, found out it was slipping, and was able to fix it. havn't had issues since.

Your throttle linkage is simply out of adjustment. CENTER your throttle/brake trim on your controller. Then take your throttle/brake servo horn off, and watch the throttle slide in the carb. Turn the servo horn by hand until it shuts the slide all the way, and then push the servo horn back onto the servo splines and tighten it back up. Then trim the throttle/brake servo on the controller to put a slight preload on the throttle linkage(so it has pressure holding the carb slid closed), and then adjust your brakes so that they have just a slight bit of play at that setting.

I hope all of this makes sense. The idle stop screw ill only make a difference if the servo has some tension on the throttle rod to keep it closed all the way. You simply need to adjust your linkage/servo horn, and re adjust your idle stop screw on the carb if needed. Real simple fix, and you will learn how to set it up correctly anytime you take if off after you get it right this first time.

Hope this helps, let me know if i confused you with any of this.

Holy crap, I think that fixed it, I just need to take it outside and run it to confirm it, but it looks like it worked. Man I love this forum, everyone seems like real stand up people here, thank you everyone for the help.

I'll jump on in a bit and confirm that that fixed it. I been reading over the OFNA throttle mod the last couple days, think I might give that a try if I can find a thread that has a list of parts needed.

Hopefully that fixed it for ya. Let us know if it worked.

Now, If you adjust the idle screw and it doesent idle down, you should be able to use the trim to put more preload on the carb linkage to keep it closed.

Let us know how it goes, but that should have you fixed up!

Just a little update fellas. Took it outside earlier and it is fixed:happy:

That was the problem, just trying to figure out how that happened?? Oh well, it's fixed now, on to tuning. Again thanx guys, I really appreciate it.

On a side not, I was considering tackling the throttle/brake mod, looks like it works very well...does anyone have a thread or link that has all the parts I would need to complete this with? I have seen threads pertaining too it but nothing that has all the parts listed that I would need, or where I would get them.

Happy bashing!!
