Just like the title, I'm having an issue where this thing (XL 5.9 w/3 speed) runs great but not getting a definitive 1-2 shift.... Everything inspected and assembled exactly to manual specs. Third shifts properly.. Any ideas?

My three speed was the same, right out of the box. No 1-2 shift. I took mine apart and turned the first shift point in almost a full turn. Shifts pretty much right where I want it now. I think it's pretty common for the 3 speed to come preset with the 1-2 shift set way too early

I'd keep adjusting the 1-2 clutch. They require a certain rpm to engage and every engine/gear setup is different. If you tighten it down like a quarter turn at a time you should find it. I know it's a pain pulling all the gears apart every adjustment. If you tighten 2-3 clutch down all the way it won't shift to 3rd at all. Then you can play with 1-2 till you hear it shift. That way there's no mistaking what shift your getting.

Ok good tips, I was considering removing 3rd gear all together to have a straight go at making sense of 1-2, but your screw it all the way in idea is good too

And 2-3 can be done from outside the housing. so once you get 1-2 where you want, you can just back out 2-3 without going back in.

Absolutely.... I love HPI... But this second gear adjustment thing is killing me.. All set up to run second alone tomorrow

Ok, so finally have this thing shifting properly through all the gears.
1-2 clutch is at 1.5 turns in, 2-3 is 3.5 or 4 turns in I think. WAY different than the manual says.... Whatever. It shifts the way I want it now.
