From what I've read so far, I'm not sure whether it would be a wise decision to upgrade to the 3 speed tranny. Can anyone convince me otherwise?

Thanks!
Scott

i don't run the three speed myself but have heard it adds alot of top end speed only thing it can be a bit tricky to adjust at times i've heard but most like it!!!

what makes you think its not wise bro? i love it.... just get the hi-speed 3rd gear if you do..

I've read that some guys are having a hard time getting them to shift properly plus I only back yard bash so I'm not sure whether I'd need the 3rd gear anyway. They are cheap enough on Ebay so I might just d it anyway.

Thanks!
Scott

the three speed transmission has a overall higher top speed, because the 3rd gear has a higher ratio than the 2nd gear in a 2 speed transmission.

The 3spd has a little more top end and the lower 1st gear will allow for larger gearing that will also give you some more top end. With the HS option you will gain 2-4mph.

Scotti, just realized your in pelham, nh.... me, bankrupter, judicator, geanii & others are about 20-30 minutes south of you... if you want, we can hook up for a bash & you can try the 3 speed tranny out for yourself....

Yeah Scott! You scared of us!? Hehe I'm in Chelmsford(lowell). My shop is in Pelham right near the Fire dept. Definatly(so spelled that wrong) should bash with us. But yes to your question a standard 3speed like bank said only makes you accelerate faster.. you'll have to buy the upgraded 3rd gear to gain some more speed.

Hey Judicator & frddyj and anyone else who lives close by,

I just got my Savage about a month ago and joined this site soon after but I'm glad to hear there are bashers close by because it seems like I'm the only one in my area that uses R/C's and to be honest with you, the neighbors don't appreciate a loud engine racing up and down the streets!!! There really isn't any place good to bash unless I just haven't found them yet.

I had a 1/10 scale Associated RC10GT I bought after I got out of college in 1994 and two of my friends recently bought a REVO and a T-Maxx so I had to one up them and get the Savage. Mine's the only one that is running at the moment 🙂

Anyway, how late in the season do you guys run your trucks? I heard you have to be careful not to run them when it's too cold out or the engine might burn up if you're not careful when tuning them in cold weather.

Are you guys planning to run them this weekend? If so, maybe I can swing by and join you and learn a thing or two!!!

Let me know.

Scott

Hey Scott.... last time we got together for a bash was Nov 23 and it was in the high 20's- low 30's... we just ran the fuel mix a little richer & warmed the mills up with a heat gun before starting & they were fine...
.
the rest of the vehicle was another story because the plastic was very cold & prone to breaking when we launched them 6-10' in the air...
.
we're plannin' to bash this Sunday, but need to keep an eye on the weather because it looks like snow will be rolling in Saturday night..
.
keep in touch though, because we bash regularly & our local hobby shop is in the planning stages of building a track down here in Billerica.. always lookin' to hook up with a group of people & your buddies are welcome also when they get things up & runnin'...
.
bring the rc10 too, its good to have a back up r/c to run...
