I was thinking of replacing my stock wheels on my Savage X 4.6 with some Pro-Line Big Joe 40's, not sure which rim to go with, I'd like them to be black though and will I need a hex conversion, or will the stock hex's do?

Mainly looking to go with those tires because they are wider and I like the look of them, I can barely turn the truck on the grass or dirt without it trying to flip with stock rims/tires.

Also, since I just upgraded to a hump pack (1600mah) I think I should be ok with these right, or will I probably need a more high torque steering servo?
 
Proline wabash's can be dyed black. I have a set of the big joes and don't even run them anymore I would recomend bowtie's on dish rims if you want a good handling truck.

i may be wrong but arent most 40 series rims 23mm hex and the stock is 17mm so he would need the extensions,please correct me if I'm wrong folks as i don't want to steer someone the wrong way!!

They are badlands I will pull the number for the bowties tonight but if you are just bashing the badlands will work great.

see i learn something new every day it seems,lol i've never used the 40 series so wasnt sure so thanks pope for clearing that up its appreciated!!
 
well i went with some 40 series road rages with axial bead-lock rims....later on down the road I'll get some off-road tires as well to go with them.

For now when I want to off-road I'll switch to the stockers.

I got them from my LHS....R/C Hobby Shop in sugarland, tx. I am not sure of the part # for them....can't seem to find them on any r/c website either...hmm
 
Added a link for the tires at the same time that you posted also. They make the axials in black chrome or just straight black. Looks like it might be a flat black color for your blacked-out truck.

weight... i don't really like to add a bunch of weight to my truck.. figure the lighter the faster. Think all the screws (both sides) The rings (both sides) the wheel X4. Vs. One plastic wheel.

yeah true....

I just stripped out my front bevel gear and ring gear on my diff, i'm thinking this wheel upgrade is what caused it.

meh...=/

nope, but it wasn't because of that I don't think. when I opened the diff up a bearing was shot, so that most likely caused it because my rears are still working.

also while I was in there I switched the front to 50k diff lube and cleaned everything up with some awesome cleaner before hand, melts grease like nothing. PJ-1 Super cleaner, its made to clean bike chains...had it left over from when I had my r6.

Rims and Tires

Hi Folks,

Thinking of getting my hands on some 40 series. Am not into Beadlocks as i heard they strip quite bad. (It'd be good for Crawlers though). Looking for on road and off road.

For Tires:
* On Road: Looking at Proline Road Rage 3.8" Road Rage
* Off Road: Looking at Proline Masher 3.8" Masher or Proline Moab 3.8" Moab

For Rims:
* Looking at Proline Cheyenne 3.8" Cheyenne
* Proline Velocity 3.8" Velocity

Love the looks of Big Joes but heard they are heavy and meant to shelf only. Bow Ties are not good looking at all but performance should be good.
And i am not into Dish as well.

Some folks go for looks while many go for performance. I am looking at both. So if you guys have any recommendation or any feedback on my wishlist then please jot down here. It will be really helpful for me.
 
I'm now running HPI Tremor wheels with the Goliath tires and love them due to the added width to the truck. Big improvement in handling. Plus they are bigger than 40 series, I think they are like 4.2" if you like that look. I heard the Road Rage tires aren't very good but never tried them myself. Hypnotiq from this forum runs the HPI Blast wheels with the Phaltline street tires. They are the same size as the Tremor wheels. You could find out from him how well they do in different conditions on the street. Here is a pic of my truck with the new wheels on it.

Hey Sweet ride Mike. Thanks for your suggestion. I am loving the tires and rims on ur MT. Didn't know they were same size or even bigger than 40 Series. So u use this for On Road huh?
BTW did u change anything on ur gearing part? Heard we gotta gear down or something if we r running big wheels. Mine is totally stock.
 
If it is the flux in your sig, I'm not really sure. Mine is an XL with 16/52 gearing and it does awesome on the bottom end and top end. I run these tires on all terrains, dirt, grass, pavement, you name it. They are pretty awesome. The truck hardly ever rolls any more. It ends to slide before it rolls even on pavement so you can take faster corners. On dirt the added width and weight of the wheels keeps it planted really good. I can take high speed turns while still on the throttle and the truck just drifts rather than trying to roll like it did with the stock terrapins on. The truck does not like to wheelie anymore but I think it is a traction issue, not because of the added weight. The tires spin just enough from a stop that it won't wheelie but it still accelerates really well. I think the terrapins give a little wrinkle wall effect like the tires on a drag car, whereas the Goliaths are more of a low profile tire so they hold their shape better allowing a little bit of slip on initial take-off. Other than doing wheelies I would say this set-up is all around better for performance driving. If I want to ride wheelies up and down the street I can always throw the terrapins back on, and you can't really wheelie on dirt and gravel anyway which is where I run most of the time.

I am not into wheelies. I even bought extended tvp from tcs to ensure my front stays on the ground most of the time. Lolz
 
Yeah I agree for performance driving you want to keep all four on the ground, but I still like to show off once and a while when I'm on pavement. Can't get over the motorcycle days, LOL.
