I was having a blast with my truck today and then it seemed like my bottom end was getting sluggish. Then the truck started acting wierd. It would stop even though I was on the gas, and my first thought was that the battery was low and my fail-safe was kicking in. But then it would drive for a second or two and then stop again. It did that for a minute and then the throttle servo quit working all together. I inspected it and everything seemed ok and the servo plug did not come loose as I thought. The servo won't do anything and I plugged the steering servo into both channels and it works fine so it's not my radio or receiver. I took my fail-safe out and that didn't fix it either so i guess my servo is dead! Does this sound famliliar to any of you guys, when servos quit working like that? I'll see if HPI will replace it on monday. I have only ran 2 gallons through the truck so hopefully they will. Any suggestions on good replacement servos in case they won't, I might replace both at the same time with some nice fast/high torque servos with metal gears. I can't remember if the XL has metal gears or not but I'm starting to get fed up with this things constant string of problems so I want to make it more reliable with better gear.

You seem to be on the right track. Good luck with hpi call don't email they should replace it for you no problem they are very good with their stuff

Actually I have a good experience with e-mail support from HPI, IDK if it was luck but I had a 4 stock shock pack sent to me two times (the shocks they sent me were also defective) and I didn't even provide a receipt. Actually I just said my shocks were defective and they sent me a replacement right away without any proof that I had purchased a Savage. Anyway, I guess the best option is to call if you can, but for me (my spoken english is very hesistant), the e-mail did the job!

I am sure that the email will work fine I just find you get your parts faster if you call plus I find that it makes me feel like something is happening to resolve my issue when I have a person on the line. Thats just me though.

I had this problem with my hitec 645mg. This went on for a minute of 2 then the servo started to work normally again. If anyone knows why this happens please post.

Wildchild27- Fortunately I was running a good return spring so my carb kept closing itself preventing a runaway.

FX- Yeah I was wondering if this was common and if maybe I could fix it myself. I'll still have HPI send me a new one but I thought maybe I could patch this one for now. I really wanted to run it today too! We hardly ever get any good weather on the coast so now I'm sitting here, wishing I was bashing. I ran my Super Nitro RS4 a little to get it outta my blood LOL!

Just got off the phone with HPI and they are sending me a new servo. He said they are going to send me an SF-2 instead of an SF-1, which has a little more torque. I think it is the standard steering servo out of the X4.6, but he said it will work fine and hopefully be a little better.

They seem to have a tendency to give slightly better products on warranty than the original, based on both our experiences... I got a new pack of 4 shocks when I only asked for a plastic replacement shock body; they could have shipped the plastic parts tray only but they didn't.

Yeah I have had nothing but good experiences with them. Last time I called to see if there was a specific way to clean and lube the OWB's to make them work a little better on cold starts. The girl I talked to ended up sending me a new OWB and starting shaft for my XL LOL! I wasn't expecting that but since she didn't have any good advice for me her answer was to send me a new set! I was like OK if you want to send me new ones go ahead but I was just looking for cleaning tips LOL! So, I just put the new ones in my tool kit as spares. Works out good for me since the OWB's cost over $20.

So, I got tired of waiting on Fed Ex and scavenged my Super Nitro's steering servo to use as a throttle servo in my XL, it didn't take much to get it in there and adjusted. I'm gonna go enjoy some of this rare sunshine where I live LOL!
