Strange vapor lock-like problem with Picco 26

OK, I hope that someone can help me figure out my issue here, i am kinda at a loss.

So yesterday, I was running my Hellfire with a Picco 26 in it back and forth in the back yard, body off. I was shaking it down after being repaired (remember the top-down flop Pope? lolol) and wanting to just make sure everything was OK.

So I was running it back and forth at WOT, body off, and running it RICH (lots of smoke). I noticed that it would die suddenly every once in a while, but not at the same RPM or load level. I pulled it up on the deck, checked it out - nothing obvious. I did notice when I took a look right after it died, it was making gurgling noises in the carb. During the runs, I checked the temps from time to time, and never got above 210. When I pulled it over, the carb temp was about 165 (seems awfully high) and when I opened the throttle, I could see the fuel going backwards up the fuel line.



Yes the fuel line is close to the head in this picture, but the fuel seems to be cooking in the carb. I am going to rotate the fuel intake to keep the fuel line away from the head, but I doubt that this will be a huge difference.

Any thoughts?

Had the same issue with mine forever. Carb would evenlock up.

I had the same problem. the fuel goin back in the fuel line when the carb was full throttle. The engine would Quit after ft run. The only thing I did that solved it was richen the ls needle way out, and re tune low end. It runs great now! (you know the sc 8)Good luck!

For me I set the idle gap to a little less than 1 mm. Lsn to flush and the hsn 1/4turn in from flush. May seem really rich but it isn't. That was on a ths racing pipe.

Bob get a can of dust off (compressed air/liquid form) invert and hit the carb when it does it. see if it stops it (heat issue). then go from there. That will tell you if it is vapor lock or not.
