just built my first savage(xss 4.6) it seems like the shock oil isnt moving past that washer with the holes did i do something wrong or is the oil just super thick please help.

ps I'm a newbie at this but have some experiance with traxxas(t-maxx,e-maxx and revo's)

It should slide with ease threw the oil unless the oil it to thick like lifter is refering to. The hole size works in conjunction to the oil thickness. Are you sure the holes don't have crap in them.

its brand new i just got the kit today and its stock oil with the stock washer things but I'm thinking the oil could be to thick cause and the holes are to small but I'm just wondering since its all stock out of the box. the shokes just rebound even without the springs its like the oil is compressing

If its rebounding there is to much oil in the shock. Don't follow the manual then. You need to leave the oil down from the top about 1 to 2MM.

This will solve you issue.

Yup, good catch trix, definitely to much oil. Take some oil out, take spring off, when you compress the shock shaft, it should not rebound by itself.

What you need to do is fill the shock right to the top, then put the cap on fully. Now apply a small amount of pressure to the bottom of the shock shaft without the springs fitted, and then undo the cap just enough to let out the excess oil. Keeping the shock upright compress the shaft all the way in until no more oil comes out. Basically what you're doing is displacing the volume of oil taken up by the shaft and piston assembly. Now tighten down the cap fully and your done, you may get a very small amout of rebound, but this won't hurt. You just need to make sure you do exactley the same thing for each shock, so they all behave the same before you fit the springs.
Hope this helps.

Great vid fx. That should help anyone that needs help to rebuild or change oil in shocks. Sounds just like john from HPI doing the vid.
