steering ?

Well here is what I noticed. Put everything back together (still going to try what orcusasomega suggested) but when I push the wheels (side where the spring is located) I can see the steering crank part # 85058 kinda gets stuck or hung up a little before it moves almost seems like it's pushing up before it turns. It moves but needs a little nug, everything seems to move freely except for that one side where the steering crank / servo saver is. once it gets past what ever is making it stick it moves just fine.

Ya that would be cool. A few beers some bashing a few beers some more bashing. If I had it my way I would be working on my trucks all the time. That is after I spent the day breaking them 🙂 I read through your other post about the carrier/outer hub and I'm going to have a look tonight when I get home.

I always thought that they had to be on kinda tight. That could be it also.:thinking:
 
if you loosen them alittle then lock tite them you will be fine, ive done it , but it sounds like your saver is not tight enough ,tighting that thing down the two pieses that are cut on an anlge should not seperate unless you take a hard hit, if they are seperating just by turning the wheels they are not tight enough. they kinda work like the piece that locks your goose neck to your frame on your bike, and you know your handel bars will come off if their are not tight enough.lol

ya I have the bearings but thank you nitromite. I will tighten down that saver tonight if I get home from work in time.

you should look at them while turning your wheels (while they are on the ground) with the rx if you see them coming apart they are too loose..good luck..

Crap! I never got to it last night. Maybe tonight i'll get a chance to look it over again. I am going to tighten down the screws that hold the steering together first (the ones from the top inside the battery box and the two in the bottom under the chassis) I don't understand why HPI doesn't use the hex screws for these. Maybe I'm over thinking it the wheels do turn while on the ground while the truck isn't moving. It's just that sometimes they get hung up and won't turn. I can swing the wheels from left to right a few times then for some reason they stop turning. I'm going to look at the servo also while this is happening. Everything looked fine to me before when I had it apart. I will let you know. I wish I could post a video of it so you guys could see what's up.

is their a screw too long in your tie rods or servo arm that minght be cataching on something? Do this first remove arm from the servo, with the wheels off the ground turn them left and right to their full extent they should be sloppy loose and move with ease. if their is no hanging up or cataching. their is nothing wrong up frunt. if that works out look closer at the are pice that connects the servo horn to the steering if it is on any kind of bind it will cause steering problems. some servo horns are higher than others and that will put a bind on the steering. it should be a straight line on angles from the horn to the steering. i have done this before but cought my mistake quick.
another thing i have ran into is the X shaped servo horns depending on the leangth line up fine but when you go to turn they can catch on the side of the TVP. just acouple thing to look out for.ill shoot ya a PM

Ok... You know the spring thats on the purple portion of the Bell crank? when I turn the wheels by hand I notice that the portion of the bell crank (side with the spring) kinda moves or get hung up some how when turning and needs a little extra nug. almost looks like the springs to tight or something. I know I explained this before but I'll do as you say and If I run into trouble I'll give you a shout. Thanks again.
 
have you taking the whole spring apart and cleand it their may be a rock or some dirt in their causing the problem, I'm just trying to help ya figure it out as i had some steering problems when i got my savage and i know it can be frustrating. we do have the same set up so it shouldnt be too hard to figure out
 
I gotta check. I'm sorry I haven't had a chance to look at this thing yet. You guys are very helpful and I don't want you guys to think I have forgotten about this. Been getting home from work super late and the last thing I can do is concentrate on my truck. Bare with me guys, and thanks again. Just by looking I can't see anything stuck but like you said I have to take the thing apart to find out. BTW NITROMITE I'll be sure to give you a call if I can't do this.
 
I think I found the problem. When I took everything apart I started to eliminate one think at a time to see what the problem could be. Turns out that the restriction comes from the steering crank part #85058. There seems to be some restriction when I turn the wheels. When I disconnect the steering crank in goes away. I'm puzzled because the restriction is only in one direction. Once I turn the wheels past that point of restriction (very small amount) it goes away.

i had that problem untill i put in the bearing up grade have you done that? if not i have a ton of them i would trade or sell
 
I did the bearing upgrade. It's funny that the restance is only limited to a small degree if the wheels are turned all the way towards the Left I feel some restance. But once the wheels are turned passed that small degree they move fine until I go back to the spot where they get hung up again. Maybe I shouldn't worry about it and I'm OCD about it. It works so I'll just leave it be until something breaks.
 
Got it. I don't know what I did but theres no binding when I turn the wheels. Might have been that the screw that connects my steering linkage from the servo horn was to tight. Well I might post a vid anyway just to see. Thank you thank you thank you NITROMITE.
 
if you have a digi servo and a tx you can set your epa just tighten down your spring all the way and set your throw accordignly
 
any time i can help i am glad to, but it sounds like you figured this one out on your own...process of elimination works every time with theis things. keep that in minde while wrenching on your savy. now go bash the crap out of it.

OK guys thought I had this all worked out but a guess not. Still having issues with my steering. Turns out the plastic savor savor ( the two pieces that fit together over the spring ) are binding up. I turned the stock spring as tight as I could but it seems that the to pieces are to loose or are binding somewhat. Can't seem to fix this. When I put the spring back on the two pieces seem to fit together just fine. If I loosen the spring or tighten it down same problem. Checked everything all is good it's those two plastic pieces that are giving me a problem. Will the heavy duty spring take care of this?

does my savage x come with this stock ... black spring under servos ?

and theres a silver spring witchs looks stronger in my spare parts ... should i switch?
 
Yes the steering bell crank or I should say cam type servo saver. Correct me if I'm wrong guys. And yes there is a heavy duty spring you can purchase just don't know if this will fix my problem.
