Spur Gear Promblems

HPI savage 25 with 4.6 spur gear keeps striping out I have played with the gear mash still cant get it right.Could something else be cause this.

could be a cracked motorplate, or bent trans input shaft that the spur gear is attached to..

Missing screw or loose screws on the motor mount and motor also.. and seeing you didn''t saw what you were doing at the time. If jumping upon landing don't have your brake or throttle on. If just driving check what Sunk and I said.

slip some paper between the sg and cb then tighten down your motor. use blue threadlock on the motor mount screws.

Just pulled mill the bell gear has a little play in it i think its the wrong spacer .The first spur gear was because of missing screws fixed that and did the paper test no jumps just up and down street get 1 tank and spur gear toast. I had no problem setting up savage xl this 1 kicking my butt.thanks for yalls help

Another possibility is excess heat. Clutch slipping, high engine temps. Also bearings in CB could be shot.

You want less than 1mm of play between the spur and CB.

slip some paper between the sg and cb then tighten down your motor. use blue threadlock on the motor mount screws.

these were the best to pieces of advice i ever got....the paper makes setting the mesh soooo much easier..

yep the paper trick is the best way to mesh your gears!!! its really easy to do and will give you the right mesh every time if done right!!!

ok i got some pics of the paper trick tonight when i was reinstalling my motor...its not perfect but you can easily get the idea..
first you will need your truck..some locktight (blue) and some paper...along with the nessicary allen...

cut or tear a small strip of paper as shown in pic...

next you want to add the locktite to the bolts and intall them loosly...(you will want to work kinda fast because of the nature of locktite setting up) but relax its not that bad...

make sure you can move the motor around on the plate just a bit...then you will want to insert the strip between the spur and clutch bell...i do this by putting a small bend on one end of the paper and roll it down by turning the spur gear...

now you will want to push the motor side ways against the spur and tighten the allans...

then you have set your gear mesh...you can simply roll the spur and the paper should fall out....i always manage to turn it the wrong way and have to use needle nose pliers to fish the paper out...

i was having the same problem. i put a hd steel spur on it, and it started stripping cb's. i picked up a new trans for cheap, and got come cb spacers, and that fixed my problem.

try taking your cb off and sanding the inside with a HIGH grit sandpaper. if your using non alu shoes, its important to use a high grit for wear purposes.

also check and make sure that your sg is on straight, and doesnt wobble too much when you spin it. i found that if i drop the truck and the spur spins, it usually takes a good bit before it stops when i have it set right.

had the same problem so i went with the steel spur came to find out it was really small rocks gettin thrown in to the mesh

i landed my truck upside down and toasted two spurs before i realized my engine plate and brace was bent.
