I have an extra Hitec HS-5625MG servo laying around and I was thinking of swapping it out for the stock SF-5 steering servo in my Savage XL... but I'm not sure how much of an upgrade that really is. HPI's website lists the SF-5 being 9kg/cm torque but no specs on speed. The HS-5625MG is listed at 7.9 kg/cm.

What do you guys think? Should I swap them or shop for an even stronger steering servo? Once I upgrade the steering servo I'll probably put the SF-5 as the throttle/brake servo.

An advice would be much appreciated!

OK actually I just noticed the specs for the HS-5625MG are actually 7.9 kg/cm at 4.8v and 9.4 kg/cm at 6v. I'm guessing HPI is quoting the spec for the SF-5 at 6v, right?

yes... call them they will tell you who makes it and all its specks. Most likely a futaba that is the other 2 SF's (949) 753-1099 they don't keep any secrets

I found the specs, I figured I'd post them here in case anyone else is interested.

HPI SF-5
Torque: 8.9kg/cm @ 6.0v
Speed: .20 sec/60 degree @ 6.0v

Hitec HS-5625MG
Torque: 9.4kg/cm @ 6.0v
Speed: .14 sec/60 degree @ 6.0v

So it looks like the 5625 is a decent upgrade, slightly more torque and faster. 😎
