slipper mod for bigger engines/might contain traces of brushless

well i went out today and bought what i needed to start testing if my idea of using shim cup springs would work

i was going through the manuals from 3.5 savage to the xl 5.9 and my hunch was confirmed they both use the same slipper pressure spring

no one needs to tell me that the same spring would be ideal for both trucks as there is a huge difference in power

many people just tighten the spring to full lock so it will stop slipping as the settings hpi provides are clearly too soft and the slipper is slipping way too much

by tightening to full lock you are taking away the benefits of the slipper witch is to burn off extreme shock loads under full acceleration as when the truck shifts or lands a jump on throttle

my theory is that now there is a need for a new spring that has about 50-100% more pressure than the stock spring so you can adjust the slipper properly

without yapping on about this any further ill put in some pics

videos will fallow shortly

as i am getting the brushless xl i figured i should figure out a way to save the 3 gear box from exploding as the brushless motor is way to powerful and if i want the gearbox to last

i must be able to adjust the slipper right

soft enough so it will slip when it shifts but still firm enough so it wont keep slipping after the gear has locked in

i was amazed how loose the slipper is when going after hpi instructions

here is the first video (the original slipper spring) it really shows how loose it is at hpi setting

and here is the second video it shows how much firmer the slipper is grabbing but still adjustable

the pressure is now way past the pressure of the original spring without going to full lock

I'm buying it rtr from finedesignrc

but he is putting in a larger motor than they usually use 4.7 electric hp

2x 5s LiPo neu1521 motor 3500 watts+ all types of pinions for the motor he has
:10: :10: :10: :10: :10: :10: :10:

if i remember right the hpi 5.9 has been dynoed at 1.8 hp

Are the 2 packs going to be run in series or parallel? Also what speed control is it going to be using?

That thing is going to have a bucket load of power. I can see why you are working on the slipper you are going to need it.

i guess ill be mix matching how i run the lipos series or parallel

it has the 200Amp mamba monster max v2

You will only be able to run the packs in parallel with the monster as it is a 6s controller only. Still on 5s it should be insane with that massive motor.

I have been trying to get my brushless savage going for a while now with the monster max. The internal bec keeps dieing though. If he sends you the truck with a current version MMM (v2) I would wire in an external bec and pull the red wire out of the MMM receiver plug. Otherwise use a hump pack until the bec issues are resolved but you still need to disconnect the red wire.

lol i was confusing the mmm with the hydra 240 HV witch is rated for 50Volts

i was reading about those at the same time and got them mixed up in my mind

can you show me a post where this reconnection is shown so i wont be making any mistakes?

I have been running it just not much due to issues with the MMM.

The setup is currently:
Fastlane Machine Conversion forward tranny conversion
Castle Mamba Monster
6s LiPo 4900mah 20/40c
Feigao 11XL 1516kv
Geared 52/18t with Cen diffs (taller ratio then stock)
2 Speed with the shift point set late
Mechanical brakes.

I have a new MMM that I just got today that I will wire up tonight with an external bec, i'll give it a go and see if it lasts any longer.

how is the warranty for these things the mmm?

and btw your truck looks amazing

showoff lol

as I'm not sure if i can get bec anytime soon would i be best off then using a hump pack for my rx and disconnect the red wire from the esc?

it causes allot of problems living in iceland when it comes to buying the latest and best as no stores here have anything brushless related in stock

i have the futaba fasst 3pm how do you know if i must use the am out or if i can use the digital out settings?

all i know is that i will have to do allot of reading before i even think about starting this thing up

I have been putting that truck together for a long time now so I have had plenty of time to make it look good. Castles service is also second to none so don't worry about warranty on the MMM, they will look after you. As for the hump pack that would be no problem at all. Hump packs are probably more reliable and safer then a bec as long as you remember to keep it charged. It is possible that a BEC can fail and put full pack voltage into your radio gear hence why a hump pack is safer.

i will be checking all these things before i start it up

but he told me that he would do a full testing before shipping it to me

so i probably should not worry too much

well i got the truck for some reason he threw in smaller motor than i asked for

neu 1515 1y 2500watt and 3s and 2s LiPo for a 5s setup

Snuggles What does a set up like that cost. I am looking to convert one of my savys to BL. PM me a cost and where you got the stuff. I am looking for a cost with and w/out the motor and ecs.

BTW: that thing is compleatly insane, I love it.
