Servo problem! I think?

Just got a new Savage X Christmas time, new to nitro RC but familiar with mechanics and some electronics.
The problem i'm having is that the throttle servo is "twitching" when the radio is on but not being used. Is it possible that I just have a bad srevo? Or is it some kind of interferince problem?

it was a while ago, but i think my X might have done that before i got a hump pack. are you using the 4 AA battery set up in your savage?

Welcome to the forum! It has been a while since I used stock radio equipment but I do remember that mine would "twitch" sometimes......most likely just interference but it could also be that your wires are getting crimped in something or are cut and the wires might be touching metal if the coating is cut. Also check your crystals, make sure they are in good and clean.

I have ran into a few radios that have bad crystals, but this is only when the truck is runnign they pick up interference. Personally I think you have a pinched wire like Savy said, or something else in your immediate area is over powering your transmitter. One other case(which i doubt is it) is if your antenna's are touching anything metal. Metal on metal = interference

Let me ask, are you near power lines? I always tended to pick up interference when I was near power lines with my stock radio

Nowhere near powerlines! But i'm going to have a look at the wires and connections. Hopefully thats the problem, thats an easy fix! Thanks again for the info guys, you've been a great help!

yes mine does that all the time no matter were i am with it lol the stock radio's are famous for the "twitch" lol I'm going to be upgrading my radio shortly i think!!

my stock radios twitch all the time expesially when you stick the glow ignitor on the motor

when I had a stock radio it used to twitch all the time in the house. I figured out it was my cordless phones in the house that were interfearing with it. I would say its definetly interference.

Yes anything AM of FM will twitch hear and there some worse than others. However a few things that can and will affect it is like mentioned bad wiring or wires rubbing something.

Also, the antenna wire rubbing something metal or not standing straight up and like said bad crystals (Ive never had this happen but have heard of it).

It could also be metal on metal rubbing, like a metal(alum) pipe rubbing the chassis or what have you.

Another could be that in your radio box you have the wires from your battery to your hump running or tangled up with the servo wires or wrapped around them causing interference.

One more possible thing is that something in the area you are in could be on the same or close to the same frequency you are on. This can be changed by going to 2.4ghz or changing crystals.

Lots of possibility's, more than likely its not a bad servo!

Hello again! After many hours of trial and erorr, i think i got my "twitching" problem figured out! This is a pic of my reciver outside of its case. The thing that i've discovered thruogh the process of elimination is that the source of the problem seems to be coming from too much soldier build up on the pins for the ch 2 servo. If you look just above the black sqare in the top right hand corner of the board, you will see that the 2 pins are attached by soldier. I will give you a follow up when i remove the access!

i have a servo thats a cheap $35 one and its a real twitcher, but my high end steering servo never does......btw just using a cheap futuba r/c controller.
