servo centering issue

I have a Futaba 3PM-2.4G Radio, and my steering servo is a Hi-tec HS-5645MG I am having a hard time finding the dead center position for my sero horn. Everything is out of the truck, and I power up the radio and servo, set the trim to 0 and put the servo horn on. I cycle the steerig from right to left, and probally 75% of the time it goes to where I centered it, and the other 25% it is off to the left or right?? Also, when I turn the controller all the way to the left or right, the horn goes all the way to one side, then it comes back to center maybe 1/8 of an inch, again not all the time?? What cound this be? The hump pack is fully charged, and I am showing 10.7 volts on the transmitter, and I have the EPA set to 100% left and right. Any suggestions?

wow, I have no clue. Never seen this before. you may need to call Futaba on that. I guess it could be the servo as well. Try plugging a different servo in the same spot and seeing what it does. Try both digital and analog if possible.

i have a hitec 645mg and my servo does the same thing its off by a bit its the servo horn teeth and the grooves on the servo post that don't line up. you will need to adjust your trim to get the steering straight. I'm +4 on spektrum

I think byron is having issues with inconsistency in the position where the servo comes back to not issues getting horns on.

This tends to happen when a servo is getting worn out I have found out...

Not sure if it happens with all servos but the 2 hitec 645mgs I have replaced over the years started with these problems.

That is correct, no matter where I start from with the servo horn, it does not always go back to the original spot. I just tried it with a HPI SF1 servo, and it does not do it?? It seems to be with the servo. This servo is not that old, could it be bad already? On the box it says it is a "Programmable" servo, is there something I have to program with it?

I would still think being a digital 5645 it should hold its position, I guess I don't know. I have never seen a case like this.

Are you under power lines and does it do it everywhere you try it meaning different locations. Maybe something is interfering. 2.4ghz isn't invincible, I don't know.

I tried this in my basement, the first floor, second floor, outside and still no change??

It could be BEC check this out. I don't know. I would contact HiTec then and have them replace it, they should on a Digital servo with no questions.

Well that is interesting....I am going to take the set up to my LHS tomorrow, and show them what it is doing, maybe they have the "Y" harness that I can try??
Is the 645 and 5645 two different servo's??

Yes, the 5645 is a digital version of the servo and the 645 is the analog.

The Y harness shouldn't do anything. Maybe get a new gear set and see what happens?
