anybody here ever try these things out? I'm thinking of picking up a set but on an almost $800 price tag I don't know if this is something I really wanna but on impulse.

i have seen them before but never used them,but for only a couple hundred more you could have yourself a bowflex and get you whole body ripped lol
 
the weights are wiggley a bit so I'm not sure if they'll hold up in the long run. Not sure how well constructed the locking pin is.

i looked at those and other variable weight. the reviews people left on sportsauthority.com were similar to what you just said.

i tried them, theyre clumsy if your used to reg fixed dumbells. the golds gym brand were better. in the end, i found 20#-55# fixed on craigs list with a rack for $200.

if you end up going with this, search craig's list. ive seen that set up for $300 a couple times.
