savagex4.6 roto start2 just spins

hey guys i need some help! when i try to start my savage the roto start2 just spins and will not engage or turn the engine over. what did i break? please help. thank you.:FarleyParty:

Does the rod from the Rolo spin?

If so then your OWB in the engine is shot. Replace HPI#15233

sometimes if you get alot of fuel in your owb it makes it slip as well take it out and clean and dry it off and reinstall it, see if that helps, if not as larsen said your owb may be shot

Could be the wrong Rotor start Backplate...
I got one for my 3.5 (21BB) which has an external one way bearing, and it doesn't fit on my K4.6, I imagine the F4.6 has an internal one way aswell

I'd say clean off the OWB, if that doesn't work, then pull off the backplate and investigate the spring. I don't see the spring going bad.

The one-way bearing on the K4.6 is smaller than the normal one, I'm sure this is the same on the F4.6. I'm guessing you got the wrong Backplate...

Scooter, take the roto start plate off and clean the OWB first. With the roto plate off try to turn the starting shaft by hand. If it turns the piston over then the internal parts should be ok. After you clean the bearing out, you can use carb cleaner, put it back on and try turning it by hand before you reassemble the whole thing. You can also look inside the bearing and see if any of the rollers are missing or out of place. Ive broken 3 or 4 OWB's already. If the engine compression is very high it snaps those bearings. It works out nice but you have to be careful you don't break anything else. If the compression on your engine is very high you might want to loosen the glow plug when you start your truck, you can tighten it up after its running.

hey thanks to all of your replies it was the owb. it's cracked so i will have to replace it with a new one. any suggestions on replacement part oem or another brand? and thanks again for all your help.:jamout:

Well that post took forever to show up.. Here was my response to your email addy..
It replaces the stock starting shaft and OWB. The shaft has a flat spot on it and the nut uses a set screw. The shaft only turns when you are starting the truck so it just eliminates the OWB. Works great so far. But like I said the OWB is designed to be the weak point. If you engine is hard starting and has a lot of compression you may want to loosen the glow plug when you start the truck to make it easier to turn over.
