i have to re do the thread coz the other one got messed up when i try to put pics the post gets deleted!!!

hi everyone, ok so i just replaced the flywheel , clutch and clutch bell on my savage 3.5 stock. i also replaced the spur gear.

the savage was perfect before i replaced these parts!

now when i accellerate the engine reves and the flywheel spins very fast, but the spur gear doesnt move at all and the truck doesnt move at all aswell!

whats wrong! did i put the clutch in wrong?? i followed the guide on the hpi website! or did i put the clutch springs in wrong?

does the spur gear need tightenig?

does the engine have to be meshed properly?


ok so i tightened the spur and same problem, i also meshed it properly and same problem!

the clutch shoes are put in right as i followed the guide on the manual.

the gear box is fine as i opened it up to check it,

also when i bought my k4.6 engine, i started it up and it was revving full revvs and i put my foot infront of it to stop it from flying away, i kept my foot in front for around 2 minutes and this happened around 5 times i was holding the car at full revvs with my foot infront, do u think this could of damaged anything? if so please let me know what it may of damaged!

also when i pull the car backwards i can hear a screeching sound and it is abit hard to pull it backwards. !

whats wrong!! please help!
 
Sure your brakes aren't engaged? Did you try rolling it with no motor on it? You may just need to mesh the gears correctly or make sure the brakes aren't engaged.

no i can roll it freely the brakes arnt touching at all! also i have noticed a slight crack in the out drive from the gearbox the one for the front diff there is a slight crack in the outdrive. but it still is usable, do u think this may of been a symptom of a damage in the front diff? thnx
 
Please check if the flywheel spins on the Crank shaft. I have seen where the callet is incorrect or wont clamp down correctly. It may be tough to spin differently but if you can spin it its not going to work.

Also could it be the mesh as there is none? does the clutch bell spin and the spur gear not.

ok i tried the flywheel thing and if i hold the flywheel i cant pull the pull start so i think the flywheel is ok, also it is tightened fully to the max. when i meshed it i used a paper and then screwed the engine on like how everyone else does it!.
 
Good, are all the teeth in good shape on the spur gear?

When turning the spur does the CB turn with it easily?

Your clutch looks to be installed correctly.
 
yea they are both the stock spur and stock clutchbell so they should be matching properly.

do u think a brocken diff will cause this problem?

as i said before that th new engine was on full revvs and i was holding it with my foot, this happened for a total for 10 minutes!

it accellerates in slow revvs but then if i increase revvs then it continues going slowly and i can hear the clutch spin inside!
 
ok iv just found somthing new, u know the rear end if i push it down by applying pressure to it i can still turn the drive cup for the rear end but if i push the front end down by applying the same amount of pressure then i cant turn the front drive cup,

do u thing my rear diff is gone? and is that causing the problem of the car not moving? thnx
 
But as the sav has no centre diff, it should be front wheel drive, even if the rear diff is goosed.

Hold one of the rear wheels still and turn the other rear wheel, the one you're holding still should try and rotate in the opposite direction of the one you (or a friend-would be easier, lol) are turning.

One thing I'd try is to turn the gearbox by the wheels...Lift the rear of the savage up, roll just the front wheels along the ground, the spur AND the rear wheels should both move, then do the same for the rear wheels, I'm thinking broken output shaft in the gearbox...Or drive cup or dogbone...

i think its the diff cos i can hold the pinion drive cup and still turn the wheels without a problem! i would of noticed it the drive cups wer brocken or a dogbone was brocken even if a shaft was brocken i would of noticed!

also if i do slow revvs then the car moves ok!

I'm very confused here savage 21bb, so lets recap. cornfused Engine revs up ok, the flywheel is tight on the shaft, and your clutch shoes appear to be installed correctly. If you have the CB/SG meshed (even if not correct), the CB will drive the SG. If as you say, the SG is NOT turning, then it has to be that your clutch is not engaging for some reason. Try slackening the SG right off so you can spin it easily, and see if the CB turns it then. If your SG isn't moving then the problem is deffinately nothing to do with the diff !

if i twist the spur with my hand then it drives fine
 
There's your answer then bud. Take another look at your clutch components. If everything is new, make sure you degrease everything. You can also rough up the inside of the CB and the face of the clutch shoes with some fine sand paper. Just try making sure there is no grease or nitro on anything first.

i took the clutch and everything out of a perfectly working engine, and its the same engine!
 
No offense puckamahow, but we haven't even got the SG to spin yet, so it can't be anything to do with the transmission side of things :resp:
 
Can you post pic of your clutch set up ?
Did you tighten the flywheel down on the collect all the way ?

this is why I asked what I did!!!if your spur gear wont spin it has nothin to do with the diff cups.:jamout:

This would glaze up the pads and the clutch bell and make a slip problem.

Take it apart and take sand paper to both clean up the bell good and slightly ruff the clutch shoes.

The sound is normal but the resistance is not. Sounds like the mesh is also too tight. After you ruff the parts like I mentioned above fold the paper you used in half to double it up and tighten it down like that. Pull the truck back and check again you should hear the tranny spool but the resistance should be gone.

Also if you pulled the paper out b4 you tighten it. It will change and get tight. So only do this above if you left it in place as you tightened the mill down. If you did pull it out first. Just redo it with paper in place next time(not folded). Printer paper is a lil thin to use not folded. HPI's manny stock is good.
