I'm beside myself right now. After 15 minutes of awesome run time. My Flux did a backflip on it's back and BURST INTO FLAMES!!! What do I do now and where do I go from here? Will HPI cover this? Will it be under warranty? I don't think I did anything wrong. I am using a decent battery - TP 5000 40C 3S. Didn't do anything drastic, just cruising around the neighborhood.

Just look at the toasted Flux. Now "Flux" has a new meaning in my dictionary!!!

It's a freaking brand new Flux as well right out of the box. No no jumps here, just regular driving on the streets. Flux stopped, pulled a 1/4 throttle, flipped on it's back and pooooooh! Smoke and flames galore!

Holy ****, that was fast. Were you using stock gearing? Did you properly set the EPA's on the transmitter to 100% ? How exactly were you running the truck? Did you make sure those deans plugs didn't ground on the chassis? I see some bare metal on the side where the battery wires are attached. Did you make sure that Auto LiPo was set to on?

Regardless, I would contact HPI immediatly on Monday and state what happened. Speak with Mike at ext #168 and tell him Bryce sent you to talk to him. He and HPI WILL take care of you and your Flux.

I will also post this issue in RC Monster and see if I can get some answers from Castle directly.

Andrew is the best to deal with IMO. You don't need to tell them anyone sent you. HPI customer service is top notch.

Yes, I have a Futaba 3PM and it's set to 100%. The truck was lightly run, just back and forth on the street in front of my house. No jumps whatsoever. Couple of wheelies here and there (Can't help it with this dual 3S 11.1V LiPo set up). Deans plug are still good. I unplug the batteries right after and did a test charge and both of them are still in good shape - Thank God.

I'm a little upset and overwhelm right. I love the truck when it ran. So smooth and so much power. Didn't expect to see it burst in flames!!

I will call Mike first thing monday. I will tell him that you (Bryce) recommended him. Heck, I might just drive down to HPI, I'm only an hour away and I used to live in Foothill Ranch. Hopefully they can just swap the truck out. The motor cables and ESC are all fried up good. Not too keen on getting the parts and putting them together. Just want a new truck and hopefully HPI would obliged.

This is not right....:-(

I'm pretty sure HPI will take care of u buddy..whether u did anything wrong or not it shouldnt have burst into flames, that pretty dangerous actually, so I'm sorry to hear about your bad day hopefully HPI will get ya back on the road soon!!!

yea, i wouldnt expect a new truck tho, just set your goal to get the damaged parts replaced.

I hope so, I intend to show up at their doorsteps tomorrow morning and have them take a sniff at this carnage. Not leaving until I get them toasted parts replaced.

Yeah, I took a good look at the carnage again this morning and I just don't know how HPI is going to deal with it. Lots of parts are toast like the transmission case, back half of the chasis etc...

Yep - first day out, maiden voyage. All it took was 15 minutes of run time to produce this inferno carnage.

HOLY POOCHED!!!!man i feel for you i would of cried yeah i said cried lol brand new 15 mins run time then a smoke show with lighting . man thats alot of coin to watch go up in smoke. hpi will take care of you nop doubt.. sorry for your mishaps but damn cool story to tell lol and sweet pics of the carnage .. nitros got nothing on that lol..good luck..happy bashn

OK guys real quick update - Just got back from HPI corporate office -

Yep, as I said before I will be showing up at HPI's doorsteps today and I did! As a matter of fact. I called this morning and talked to Andrew and he said to just to come on down and bring the truck.

When I arrived I was greeted by a lovely young lady at the reception desk. One thing I need to mentioned though, HPI's got a HUGE, I mean HUGE facility! It almost fills the entire block on the street.

Anyhow, 5 minutes later a guy by the name of Chris Lugo came walking out and greeted me with a warm smile. I told him exactly what happened and his IMMEDIATE response was - Yeah this happened to my buddy's Flux the other day too. The whole thing (ESC) melted. I was taken back a little. I thought that was an interesting statement. Hmmm...

Then he asked me to leave the truck there while they examine the batteries, my radio and the burnt parts. He said that he was going to get the ESC and the motor replaced. However, I pointed out that the Transmission and part of the chasis were burnt too and I asked whether he was going to replace them as well? He pondered...I further added that maybe it's better for them to just get the truck swapped out.

He then said that, that's probably the best solution. Needless to say I was happy hear that. However, he said that he had to clear it up with his supervisor first. Then he left and went back tp his office to talk to the supervisor, 5 minutes later he came out and said that they have decided to just replace the burnt parts and asked me to come back in a an hour or so. My heart sank :-(

So we went to grab lunch and when I was heading back round the corner from HPI, I got a phone call back from Andrew telling me that my truck was ready. It's was definitely good news, but what was about to unfold was even better!

I walked into HPI's reception area and waited for about 10 minutes anxiously ..Then came Chris Lugo walking out of the door with a BRAND NEW FLUX in the box!!! Needless to say I was elated! He said that it was just too much for them to replace all the burnt out parts and the supervisor went ahead and OK'd the swap out! Not only that, they programmed my batteries to work with the ESC , included Castle Creations USB programming kit AND swap out my receiver for my Futaba 3PM to work on the new truck - What Service!!!. I asked him what happened and he said that after doing some diagnostics on the ESC, they found out that it was a faulty circuit on the ESC unit. He said that they were able to pull data off the burnt, melted out ESC. Interesting I thought....

We chatted a little and he gave me a few useful tips for the Flux. I hope this proves helpful to new Savage Flux owners like me as well. Here are some tips, no major revelation but really useful tips -

Before running the truck.

1) Take the grub screw out and red loctite it. Leave overnight for it to set.
2) Tighten up the Spur Gear ALL THE WAY or your Slipper Pad will fail.
3) Program the throttle so that the truck is more controllable. This will cause less future damage done to the truck.
4) Don't do too many Wheelies and Backflips if you want your truck to last longer. (I thought this was funny, since this is all they show in their commercials)
5) The truck is RTR, no gearing needs to be done whether you are running 2S or 3s!

Just want to say big THANK YOU again to the folks at HPI and especially Chris Lugo for taking good care of me. He even gave me his card and said that I could call him anytime for advice.

HPI is a great company and backs up their products 100%!!!

Can't wait to run it again!

its great to hear HPI still puts the customer first awsome story and it just goes to show how great hpi really is....

This is typical of HPI and their customer service. Glad they took care of you! I know they have gone as far as opening a FTP for me so I didn't have to ship the parts to them. But I dealt with Alex Boyer on a daily basis so they didn't fear me trying to hack them. I don't expect many would get this option, but they say send and you do your as good as fixed... thanks for the share and happy bashing.
