Well, Here I go again. I wrote this same thread two years ago (https://www.hpisavageforum.com/threads/what-engines-for-late-2014.14517), and one before that 5 years ago. I have 2 Savages we are rebuilding, and need some engines. What is out there these days? I see that A-Main doesn't have much in stock, and LRP's are somewhat hard to find. If your going to buy a new mill for your savy, which one would you buy?

Thanks,
Nick

LRP's hard to find? Looks like tower has the 3 main ones as well as a 21 pull-start I wish they had year ago when I bought an OS21TM for my revo... I have a spare new era mount that an LRP 21 would worked nicely with.

LRP Nitro Engine ZR.32 Spec.4 Pullstart http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGGHY&P=7
LRP Nitro Engine ZR.30 Spec.4 Pullstart http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGGHX&P=7
LRP Z.28R Pullstart Spec.3 Nitro Engine http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDYEM&P=7

If I were in the market for an engine today I'd pick up one of these:

or one of the LRP spec.4's

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the suggestions. I see these Argus are made or affiliated with Alpha's and Go's. I bought a few Go's about 5 or 6 years ago. I was rob a few years back, and they stole 2 that were not even unboxed.

Are these Argus engines good to go? I like the price, but now I just need to see if I can get them with RotoStart. :)

I did say "somewhat". :) I'm bothered that AMain doesn't list the .32, or have any stock for the .28 or .30. Then I looked at ebay, and not a great selection of vendors. As compared to a few years ago. I'm feelings could be very much off base.

I haven't tried them yet and I believe Argus are made by Alpha plus. I watched Ryan Lutz race buggy and truggy using Alpha engines and it was impressive! RW mods did have a link to an Argus .28 roto start engine not long ago. An email to him would be an easy way to find out if they are still available.
Sorry about getting robbed!

Already done before reading your post. Again thanks for your suggestions, also for the kind words. It was the first time I ever was rob. They could keep it all, I really only want a DV video tape that was left in one of my tool boxes. But still sucks.

Well, tower stocks them and RC Planet stocks them. Parts were never overly easy to find, but luckily, the LRP's rarely require much more than an o-ring kit when the needle o-rings dry and shrink... after a few years. :)

Roger that, my perception could be way off. It's also tied to other things, like buying Savvy kits as well. I don't see a lot of stock. Nothing like 2005 or 06. Every LHS had them. But again my perception may be off. I appreciate the links.

I'm debating between 2 LRP .28 from Omnimodels (the cheapest I have found them) or these Argus. I like the cheaper Argus, because these mills are for my kids rebuild projects.

Nitro cars are in a decline right now. Brushless electrics are the trendy new thing.
Yep, I noticed the same. 5 years ago, you couldn't go to a site and find 6 or 8 decent 28 basher engines.

I'm kind of bumbed about the loss of all the traxxas mid-block alternatives being gone. Pretty much all you can get now is the OS21TM for $250+ and it's not that strong of an engine. 5-8 years ago, there were 5+ alternatives. When companies like HPI and OFNA go under... you know things are getting rough for hobbiests and the manufactures/distributers.

OH DAM... I knew something wasn't right. I see threads talking about ONFA design companies going away or doing something else. Also that they were going out of business, but their site is still live and active. I still remember the first rc Hobby grade TV commercial of a Jammin Buggy from OFNA.

With HPI I don't see anything saying "going out". But that Traxxas was looking to purchase HPI Racing. Then getting purchased by Ripmax and Ripmax keeping HPI branding and operations as HPI.

But that got me curious what other RC companies are no longer around. NOVAK!!!! Dammit.. That is a big one.

Yeah, HPI didn't die completely, but it wavered on the edge for a bit until they were bought by someone else.

I also saw that Novak closed a month or so ago. I think I still have an old orange Novak FM receiver laying around here somewhere. A smaller company that makes/sold budget priced LiPo's stopped too, SPC Racing. That was fairly recent. Which is odd, considering electric seems to be what people are buying now.
