Hi All,

I have a Savage 25, which I would like to convert to brushless. I have a Mamba Monster 2 ESC and motor setup which was in my upgraded E-Maxx. But since I snapped the chassis on the E-Maxx, I would like to put it in the Savage.

So I have seen a few ideas online, such as the Kershaw Designs http://kershawdesigns.com/SavageBrushlessConversion.htm but it seems that they have closed up shop.
Is anyone aware of other options that are available? I am also OK with 2nd hand too if need be. It seems to be that spares for the Savage 25 and its upgrade parts are becoming a little few and far between.

Thanks!

If you are planning on doing this with a 25 savage you may want to think about upgrading the differentials at the very least, putting electric power to stock stuff will for sure tear up the gears and internals, and yes Kershaw is gone because Dan died last year and his stuff is no longer in production so maybe look to Alza Racing or Innovative R/C for what you will need to complete this project....

Morning,
Thanks for the info, pity about Dan passing on.
Upgrading the differentials etc I don't think will be a big issue, as the standard fair of savage parts are still ok to come by.

It's the specialist type parts such as a motor mount that will fit the motor that I have and to the savage chassis without the need for any sort of permanent modification which are hard to find.
I will look on those sites in more detail on my PC, looked on my mobile and didn't find much with the exception of
http://shop.alza-racing.com/en/flux-standard/1-motor-mount.html?search_query=Savage&results=32
But need to see if it will fit.

If there are any other ideas, or shops that other members have. Please share.

Thanks once again

I did the 25 to brushless conversion using hpi parts. It turned out great BUT a lot has to be upgraded to handle the brushless power. And sometimes if you upgrade one thing it isn’t compatible with older parts like the diff’s teeth are different on the bulletproof ones and will need a new gear, see the pic. The plastic diff cups / housing can’t handle the power either. I’ll post a pic. You also can’t use the flux motor mount without upgrading the motor mount plate, which forces you to upgrade the chassis. And so on and so so on. Don’t get me wrong, I love it!! But it did end up costing a lot more than I initially planned.

Another thing, don’t waste your time on the integy brushless motor mount it’s for a 540 can size motor. I couldn’t tell before ordering it. I wish I had checked out Alza racing before I did my conversation.

Integy has 2 of them don't they? One that bolts on the front kind of weird and another that is a direct replacement for the stock brushless clamp style mount. Or is there a 3rd?

This is the flux replacement one, not a conversion, just bands to replace the stock ones: https://www.integy.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=15249&p_catid=267&ratesortby=New#.WouqNudG1HY

The other I can't find a link for, but it's what they call a "brushless conversion", part T6941.

I tried buying the kershaw conversion as well last year. I ordered the entire kit with motor/esc, mount and battery trays. Then I waited a few weeks and nothing ever showed. That's when I found out about Dan being sick. I gave it a bit more time, then asked if I could get a refund, which I got a few weeks later. Then I found a used flux hp on ebay and went that route.

That said, I'm eyeballing the alza center diff setup for my flux... I don't know if that bolts directly into a non-flux chassis or not, but the motor bolts directly to it. They also offer battery trays, but you would have to figure out how to lock your transmission in 2nd so it didn't have reverse, or figure out if a flux trans would fit, then get that.

I take that back then lol. I didn’t know about the one you posted. I’m bummed I didn’t see that months ago

Well, I'm hoping it's a replacement for the stock motor as I just ordered one so I can modify one of the clamps to fit the 1515 in there. I'm going to try the Mamba Monster X with the HPI Torq motor first, guessing it will work... hoping it will work. Then I'll modify one of the clamps to fit the 1515 in there later if the Torq starts failing on me.

My only reason for buying the MMX/1515 was to get an ESC that was waterproof. Will keep the old ESC as a spare. Well, my wife bought me the MMX/1515 combo for my b-day which is in a few weeks, but I wanted to be prepared for when I get it. :)

Hi all,

I'm just like you, trying to turn my Savage 25 into brushlles.

Since the conversion kit is discontinued in HPI and Kershaw Designs closed, there are not many alternatives. I'm looking at this:

https://www.integy.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=9384&p_catid=59&ratesortby=New#.XAbSrWhKhPY

https://www.integy.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=10930&p_catid=59&ratesortby=New#.XAbSxWhKhPY

You can tell me how you made the conversion and where you bought the components (I'm from Spain).

I read a post somewhere here recently that Kershaw designs may be reopening, you may want to look at them again before trying the intergy stuff. I tried the ones you linked but they are for a small 540 can motor.

They are, as Nova Racing Products. Their online shop still isn't up yet though.

https://www.novarc.net/

I contact with the Integy SAT and these are their answers to their kits:

"C23712 is the first version, C24038 is the most current version ... both are compatible with a Savage .25"

"The motor plate is designed for 540-550 type motors only, or 1/8 motors with a compatible 540/550 type mounting bolt pattern."

@Nadboo, you were right, only for small engines.

@X, the website is not operational and nobody answers on Facebook, so ... I think I'll end up throwing the Savage and buying another one (I'm looking at Traxxas, Arrma or HPI)

You could always make up your own brushless / center diff conversion. I have done it with my savage and have had great results (y)

Thanks @Savage 6768.

If I had a drawing, I could still do it if it's not very complicated. But honestly, I am in a moment of my life, in which time is scarce and I prefer to go to the easy.

I converted my 25 to brushless then to 1/5 scale ... don’t even want to think about how much I spent ... brushless can get pricey not to mentioned all the upgrades u need to do so it can handle the new power

Alza center diff is prob the best that’s what I have

Hey all, I’m in the same boat here. Starting converting my old 25 to brushless a while back. Ran into the road stop with the motor mount. Even after order some that I found to only fit the 540 can size.
So I have a new motor mount. Got it on eBay from Mega RC.

My issue is when mounted there is no way to get a pinion gear on the output shaft of the mator. It is millimeters from the spur gear. Is there something I’m missing? Do I need a smaller spur gear? Or lower the engine plate?

Any help is appreciated.

What size is your spur? My flux runs a 44T spur with a 20/21T pinion (can't recall what I have on for a pinion currently). A smaller spur gives you more room. Also, with brushless, you will more than likely need to look into locking the trans into 2nd gear. Electric has plenty of torque to not use 1st gear and more than likely will just hammer the 2 speed until it dies unless you lock it into 2nd.

That said, my flux has the motor kind of hanging out of the chassis a bit. So, you may need to dremel at the chassis to allow the motor to move further out as well. I'm not sure how the mount you bought fits the motor in there, would like to see some photo's of it installed if you can.

I'm assuming that FLM mount is for an 1/8th sized motor, not a 540.

It is for a 1/8 scale motor. First one I found since Kershaw going out of business.

I have a 47 tooth spur. Have not got the pinion yet because I wasn’t sure what size to get.

I ran across that one too when I was trying to convert my X, but never tried after getting my money back from Kershaw. Ended up just buying a flux hp used off ebay.

Got any photo's of it in the truck?

Haven’t mounted it in yet. Can’t decide the best route to go.
What pinion would you recommend?

I can't see that working at all. The motor is against the TVP already. Taking 3T off the spur isn't going to do squat for room. I'm not sure what that mount is for, but it's not a "conversion". Even if you removed the purple plate and mounted it directly to the cross bars and also dropped the spur to a 44T, I still don't see it fitting in there.

I'm hitting ... the assembly forces you to move everything to the side or down. have you tried to tie the new base, below the purple metal?
If you make a cut to the purple plate, so that the vertical of the motor support passes through it ... it will let you tie down, leaving the place you need for the pinion. what do you think?

The TVP looks liked part of the problem, the flux has a cutout where the motor sits and allows it to move for adjustment. Your motor is right up against the TVP. My only thought would be to put a big block or spacer under the motor mount raising the motor to the top part of the spur gear. Changing the TVP would require a bunch of new parts.

Update, I cut the TVP to allow space for the motor to sit to the side. Fits nicely now and I am able to mount everything up. I am working on making a brace to go around the motor on the outside and will also strengthen the TVP back up. Wasn’t hard to do seeing I had put on the carbon fiber TVP back when it was nitro.
Also in doing more research the mount is made by Fast Lane Motors (FLM). It is supposed to be used with a ln entire conversion with new TVP. The whole conversion kit form them runs $185.
