Had my 4.6 class throttle/brake servo fail today, checked it after the stopping hit no mechanical damage so must have been electronic…tested it on the steering terminal for proof and couldn’t make it work and the terminal works fine with steering. Curious if anyone else has had issue with the hip sf-10w servo and if anyone has recommendations for a substitute. Also starting to question receiver and transmitter after this problem…my truck took a pretty hard hit before stopping, luckily, just a bent shock piston and a broken front bumper support.

Sadly the stock radio and servos are not worth the effort, I am using a FlySky GT3 B to run my truck, as for servos amazon sells some pretty decent servos that will fit and work well I have had good luck with the Power Hd line of servos. 45kg for steering and 35kg for throttle/brake... the FlySky GT5 is also a good radio system and can be had for a great price...

Hey,
Thanks for the info, not sure if it’s possible but wish I had a kill switch for quick shutdown probably too costly or impossible to do.

Rob

Couple more questions,

Please let me know if I’m wrong but I assume Thad 180 degree angles are good for steering and brake servos. Also is the gear you recommended compatible with the hpi receiver in the truck or will I need a programer for this switch of gear or should the receiver be replaced too…don’t want weak links but don’t have enough time in this saddle to make an informed decision…Thanks in advance!

Regards
Rob

My HPI throttle servo also just died one day. I replaced it with an aftermarket one—in fact, either digital or analog works fine.

If your steering servo dies, there's no way your fail-safe is going to work. Also, remember the fail-safe is on the receiver, not the transmitter, so upgrading the transmitter means you'll need to upgrade the receiver as well. I’ve now gone with FlySky on my Revo and will probably replace the standard HPI transmitter and receiver with FlySky GT3 B as well.

Hey,

Thanks for the solid advice, I am pretty much cleaning house, the FlySky transmitter and receiver just arrived with new stronger servos, waiting on new hump pack batteries as well. Wish there was some way to have a true fail safe, sure it wouldn't be easy but probably not impossible. Would need a servo on the push button stop to kill the engine maybe.

The Revos come with quite a strong spring on their throttle server. Which means if the servo loses power the throttle closes at least till idle. That could be an option here as well would need somebody modification but it's doable.

My experience with fly sky,

So got a new Flysky FS GT5 transmitter and receiver got it all installed only to find out that channel 2 on the receiver won’t work right. Open to recommendations for something better for my savagex4.6.

Possibly, but I purchased through Amazon and I’m not able to talk to the seller through their format so I can only return it. That said, through all this, I figured out that the only thing that really needed replacement was my throttle servo. Have it ready to run now. When I ordered the fly sky set I was questioning all the hip electronics…so two new servos are in the truck now.
