Ok so I have a dell computer with Windows XP Pro. I need to do a CLEAN install of windows. I have a Windows XP Home disk with a product key.

Will this work?

Anyways if you guys don't see me for a while, just assume that I screwed up!

This will work, but you won't have XP Pro anymore. You will be doing a fresh install of XP Home. There is not much difference with the two of them. XP Home can't join a domain (be part of Active Directory.) If you don't have a large scale network with a server you won't have a problem. what you do is go into BIOS and set the boot order so that it will try to boot off your CD drive before the Hard drive. Then follow the instructions that are on screen. Most likely you will need to go to Dell to get your drivers for Networking, Sound, Chipset, Video, and printer (if you have one.) Then run through the Microsoft updates and you are good to go!!! Good luck. if you have any questions I am a Network Administrator between bash sessions hehe.

Magoo, PM me your phone number please.

Want to have a # on hand in case something goes wrong or I can't get on the internet.

Only thing I won't have anymore that I am worried about is Microsoft office....everything else I can just redownload.

Network wise I only have this Computer and an xbox on it through a router.

parker, you will first want to go to dells website and download all of the drivers and put them on a disk before you put that oem windows disk in. you will reformat your hard drive with an oem copy and none of your drivers for your network card, sound card, video card ect will work. don't rush into it. before you jump into your bios to change your boot device priority put the disk in and power down your machine first, then restart to see if the default is 1st boot cd-rom and then the hard drive. don't do extra steps if you don't need to
