I'm using the stok hpi radio
like a tf-4 or somin like that

The stock radio is pretty good for an AM system. As long as the receiver is mounted properly in the radio box it should get too "abused". Unless you plan on upgrading to a 2.4ghz system I would just stick with the stock receiver.
